What cause prostate cancer?
The topic of prostate cancer causes distress for many men over the age of 50. At times, the body may not show any symptoms of prostate cancer, and the disease is only caught during a routine physical examination at a doctor’s office. Prostate cancer occurs when the cells of the prostate mutate, becoming abnormal, and grow rapidly. The rapid growth of irregular cells leads to growth, or hypertrophy, of the prostate and eventually cancer.

The most common question for doctors is what cause prostate cancer. Many lifestyle and genetic factors have been identified and cancer is known to be common in men older than 50, being of African-American descent, and having a family history of the disease. Hormonal changes, including high levels of testosterone, have been shown to be a prostate cancer cause and influence the rapid growth of cancerous cells. Some doctors believe cancer is linked to men who have had vasectomies.

Controllable prostate cancer causes include diets lacking in fruits and vegetables and high in high-fat dairy products. Obesity is another factor that can drastically ...
... increase the risk of prostate cancer. Smoking is considered a potential risk, but no studies have confirmed or refuted these claims. However, infection and inflammation of the prostate, known as prostatitis, is linked to higher rates of cancer. Poor diets, obesity, and smoking all increase inflammation throughout the whole body, therefore putting the prostate at risk for inflammation as well.

The most common symptoms of prostate cancer include, but are not limited to difficulty or pain while urinating decreased force in urine stream, blood in the urine or semen, swelling of the legs, and pain in the pelvic area or bones. Any concern that symptoms are prostate cancer causes or may be considered troublesome, including changes in urination or ejaculation should be discussed with a doctor immediately.

While many risk factors for prostate cancer cannot be changed, such as age, race, or family history, controlling weight gain and smoking are shown to decrease the risk of developing symptoms of prostate cancer. It is important to discuss all of the risk factors with a primary care physician to determine how often testing and screening should be done in order to prevent the disease from occurring.
