Madhuram Narayanan Centre For Exceptional Children National Workshops And International Conferences
The Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children (MNC) conducts National Workshops and International Conferences, where prominent delegates and experts from India and abroad are invited to share and discuss topics on early intervention programmes for exceptional children. Different topics and latest updates on early intervention are shared and discussed at these Workshops and Conferences.
The National Workshops are organised by MNC every year. Each year different topics on early intervention are presented and shared by the experts. Some of the topics discussed during the past National workshops are 1. Physiotherapy demonstrations in Early Intervention 2. Self-management 3. Eating and feeding management 4. Alternative and augmentative communication for non-verbal children 5. Diet for the child with disability 6. Play Therapy and Yoga Demonstration 7. Understanding Cerebral Palsy and Autism 8. Early detection of Chromosomal Abnormalities 9. Developing an Individualized Programme Plan (IEP) for teaching in group settings 10. Early intervention for Visual Impairment and Hearing Impairment 11. Language and Communication ...
... among Preschoolers and 12. Habilitating and Assisting Children with Loco Motor Difficulties in their daily life skills. MNC has successfully convened these National Workshops by providing a platform for knowledge exchange for an efficient management of these exceptional children. The recently concluded 9th National Workshop held during November 2012 focussed on the topic ‘Integrating Therapy in Early Intervention Program’.
MNC also conducts International Conferences, once in three years, where renowned experts across the world, are invited to share their expertise and knowledge. The objective of these Conferences is to help those in the medical profession and families recognize the condition at an early age, which is crucial to providing support to the child. Some of the topics presented and discussed were 1. ‘Early Intervention in the prevention, care and management of these specially abled children 2. Developing Effective Behavioural Approaches for Teaching Children with Learning Difficulties 3. The Significance of Early Educational Intervention in the Lives of Children with Development Disabilities and their families 4. Training parents in communication for children with special needs 5. Assisting family and siblings in the care and management of the child 6. The technical aspects of early intervention covering a range of issues like imaging mental retardation, developments and advances in neuroscience research and marvels of the human brain and 7. Specific forms of mental retardation like Fragile X and Down syndrome, autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy. Preparations are on for the forthcoming International Conference to be held in November 2013.
The International Conferences has hosted and invited many key speakers like Prof George Baroff from University of North Carolina, USA, Prof Peter Farrell from University of Manchester, UK and Ms Wenningsih from Perkins International, Asia Pacific Region. Apart from the above many renowned Professors and Doctors from different field of study and specialization are invited to present topics on the latest trends and developments on Early Intervention programmes for the differently abled children.
MNC’s vision is to move towards societal responsibility of eradicating discrimination of these exceptional children. Through these International Conferences and National Workshops, MNC has drawn the attention of service providers, educational, training and rehabilitation professionals the impact of the advances made in the field of services to exceptional persons and children in the past decade.
The school curriculum of Madhuram Narayanan Centre for Exceptional Children functions on three core levels: 'infant stimulus' 'pre-school' and 'preparation for functional academics'. Today, the programme is one of its kind and perhaps the first to take into account our cultural variances such as feeding and toilet habits.
At MNC teaching programmes are conducted where guest speakers (Specialists) are invited to share their knowledge with the special educators and parents thereby enhancing the quality of training imparted to the child.
MNC continues to hold training programmes for teachers and institutes across India. As a result, 15 special schools with technical support from MNC have been set up in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. MNC has also motivated organisations such as Women’s Welfare Associations of Southern Railway, BHEL, and Air Force Wives Association etc. to start early intervention centres, which MNC closely monitors. It has even translated its training programmes into regional languages to maximize its reach.
