The Top 5 Architectural Wonders Of Delhi
Delhi is over 5000 years old and has been the capital city of one of the world’s largest countries in terms of area and is often acknowledged for its taste-tingling street food, bustling nightlife, congested bazaars, and natural scenery all over the world. Geographically, the city is divided into two main areas – Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi has many forts, mosques and monuments that reflect the rich cultural and traditional heritage of India and New Delhi is home to the government buildings, embassies and modern infrastructure.
If you are planning a visit to Delhi, the city has plenty of architectural marvels that merit your visit once and if time isn’t a barrier, you may be able to explore all the prominent places. Below are the top 5 constructions, including historical monuments and memorials of the city:
1.Red Fort
Located near Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi on the banks of the holy river Yamuna, the Red fort has been rewarded as a world heritage site by UNESCO in the year 2007. It is also one of the largest monuments in the city, extending over an area of about 250 acres. Every year ...
... on the 15th August (the independence day of India), the prime minister of the country hoists the national flag at this historical fort and then addresses the entire nation. The fortress sees a large number of local and foreign tourists throughout the year.
2.Qutub Minar
Though Delhi has a plethora of historical constructions, this tower epitomizes the city like no other. It is the tallest minaret structure of India that rises 220 feet above the ground. The five storey building has beautiful circular staircases, and spectacular red sandstone and marble work. The minaret is surrounded by many other tombs and structures that make this place a must-visit for every traveler.
3.Jama Masjid
Positioned in the heart of the magical old Delhi, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque of the country and one of the largest across the globe. It has a capacity to accommodate over 25,000 people’s congregation at the same time. The structure is built by the emperor Shah Jahan as the main place for worshipping Allah (the god of Muslims).
4.Humayun’s Tomb
This UNESCO World heritage site is stretched over a vast landscape in East Delhi. The tomb was the inspiration behind the architectural style of the Taj Mahal in Agra.
