Guwahati located in Assam (Northeast India) was the former capital of Assam before the capital moved to Dispur. Guwahati is the most populated city of Assam having a population of around 10 lakhs. History of Guwahati, earlier known as Pragiyotishpura (city of eastern light ), can be traced back to the 6th century and is today the main business and shopping centre not only for the north eastern states of India but also for eastern Bhutan.
