Delhi An Impressive City With A Remarkable History

Delhi, the city of emperors and nawabs attracts tourists towards it with its great historic monuments and forts. Every nook and corner in Delhi speaks of its shimmering past, superb victories and great romantic tales.

A mesmerizing trip to Delhi will surely take you to two great areas of Delhi providing two different experiences - Old Delhi and New Delhi. Old Delhi is the seat of the iconic past, the mosques, monuments and forts whereas New Delhi is the seat of power where the government buildings and embassies are situated besides swanky restaurants, cafes and shops.

Delhi’s close proximity to the mighty Himalayas and the Ganges make it a spiritual, adventurous and business destination and in terms of Sightseeing there is something for everyone in this precious city.

When in Delhi, do visit the famous Lotus temple at Kalkaji in New Delhi. This fine specimen was constructed under the guidance of the Persian planner Fariborz Sahba. ... sand. The temple accomplishes a magical sacredness during festivals.

Another exquisite architecture well admired everywhere is the Akshardham Temple. This modern monumental wonder of India speaks about Indian architecture and the auspicious beauty of minute carvings on magnificent sculptures.

It is impossible not to talk of the remarkable Historical Sites in Delhi where you feel blessed to witness first-hand the old and cherished bygone era.

Humayun’s Tomb– The tomb built by Mughal Emperor Humayun for his wife Hamida Banu Begum was a model for other monuments built by the great Mughals in India and is a must visit when talking of historical sites in Delhi.

Purana Qila – This was also built by Humayun, but later was taken over by Sher Shah Suri, the founder of the Islamic Sur Empire. Suri made modifications to the fort and the one you see today is the remnants of the fort, giving you a glimpse into the historical past of the capital city.

Red Fort – This was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 17th century. He took 10 years to complete this magnificent structure. Visitors from India and abroad never miss the opportunity to visit this grand fortress. Today Red Fort is the venue of many national festivals.

Qutub Minar– This monument is the tallest minaret in India and has 379 steps to reach its top. The monument was built during the reign of Qutab-ud- Din Aibak and is a must visit when in Delhi.

Sight Seeing in Delhi is never complete without visiting its varied museums and parks.

Jantar Mantar – Here you can see instruments made using special formulas. The huge architectural astronomy instruments are built under the guidance of Jaipur’s Maharaja Jai Singh, do make time to visit it.

National Museum - Standing right beside the Archaeological Survey of India headquarter in Janpath, National Museum has an extensive collection of art and artifacts from across the country and the world spanning a period of 5000 years. Sculptures from various regions of India belonging to different periods of history are on display everywhere at the museum – you can’t miss it.

Shankar International Doll’s Museum - The museum started off with 500 assorted dolls, but today it holds about 6,500 exhibits from as many as 85 countries around the world. There are two sections within the museum, one that showcases dolls from the Middle East, Africa and India, while another that holds exhibits from European countries, the U.K., the U.S.A., New Zealand, Australia and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Lodhi Gardens – This picturesque park on Lodi road has many historical monuments housed inside it and you can easily wander away your time by revelling in all the little treasures it offers.

Garden of Five Senses – Located in Said-ul-ajab village in Delhi, this garden boasts of a wonderful array of plants and trees arranged in various geometric patterns along meandering walkways with lotus pools and miniature ponds tucked away in cozy corners. There are a number of sitting areas in the garden, which provide for a pleasurable experience with ample shade and wonderful views. If looking to unwind in Delhi, visit the place.

Central Park -  Central Park in Delhi is not just any neighborhood park, but a place which lies in the most central location of Delhi, above the Rajiv Chowk Metro station where you can catch a glimpse of the entire Connaught Place which is always buzzing with activity. Do explore the place.

Hence a day is not enough to visit the attractive destinations in Delhi. The city has a lot in store for its aspiring visitors. The streets and monuments of Delhi offer a once in a life time experience!
