A working woman needs to have a smart, versatile wardrobe. Believe it or not, in many public facing roles, a person’s professionalism and potential is judged by the outfit they wear; after all that is what makes the first impression. So wearing faded salwar dupatta or casual shirt to work will just not do. It is very important that your outfit complements the nature of your work and for that some simple tips can be really helpful.

If you are a teacher, a professor, a lawyer or a doctor, it is very important to make your clients feel comfortable. Such women need to dress in casual yet smart salwar dupatta that gives them a professional air. These salwar dupatta need to be simplistic enough to give them all day comfort, while the designs and colours must be pleasant. Think carefully of not only the designs but also the material you choose. Fact is that clothing that breathes and lets you stay fresh for longer will keep you more vigilant and comfortable even after a long 8 hour shift at work. So choose from cotton ...
... fabrics, khadi, natural blends in salwar dupatta.

For women in the corporate section, formal shirts paired with trousers and skirts work best. It is possible to wear even a simple black casual shirt, if you accessorize well. In case your shirt is not very formal in design, throw a scarf or wear pearls that bring about an air of dignity and elegance and uplift your outfit effortlessly. A cotton black casual shirt is a must-have in every wardrobe. These can be paired with almost all colours in trousers – brown, blue, grey, black and even white. Also, many trousers come with stripes and checks and these too look best when paired with a simple solid colour shirt.

A formal red shirt can be worn to work, if the rest of the outfit is simple. Never pair a formal red shirt with printed trousers or skirts – red in itself is attention drawing and if your trousers and skirts add to the melange of colours and textures the whole outfit can become too overwhelming. The best way to wear a formal red shirt is to pair it with simple, slim fit trousers or a black pencil skirt. Keep the shoes simple as well – black pumps with or without heels are perfect for work wear.

For winters, choose your outerwear carefully. For those who wear both salwar dupatta and formal shirts paired with trousers to work, a smart cut blazer can be a great buy. Also long open woollen sweaters that drape well can easily be worn over both your ethnic and western outfits and ideal colours will be black, grey and blue. Never try to bring in colour to your work wear with the sweaters and jackets you choose. In a corporate setup, it is best to keep the sweaters or blazers most basic and add colour through printed shirts or even scarves. For example, a red blazer over a black casual shirt can be too daring and overbearing for the corporate sector, whereas a red formal shirt worn inside a black blazer is a better choice.
