Today every nook and corner of the street has an optical shop. These shops can be seen overflowing with crowds. Some people make use of eyeglasses as part of their fashion accessories while others wear it for visual purposes. These days' large varieties of eyeglasses are being designed depending upon the purpose. Visual problems can be overcome by using lenses that serve the purpose of clearing the vision according to the doctor's subscription. The types of glasses can be differentiated depending on the types of lenses.

When you walk out in the sun you can ensure the protection of your eyes by using tinted or polarized sunglass lens. The glasses can also stand as a protection against accidents which might occur during a sports event or some other occupation which might involve the risk of eyes getting injured.

The different types of lenses that are usually used include:-
Lenses used for the purpose of correcting single vision problems- Visual problems like Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, can be corrected using single vision lenses to make the distant objects clear. It also makes the objects in closer ...
... vicinity appear clear and near. Hyperopia, commonly known as Farsightedness, causes closer objects to appear blurred while distant objects seem to be clear. Presbyopia usually seen in elder people occurs when trying to read minute printed articles. All these visual problems can be corrected by using single vision lenses.

Astigmatism has been described as a visual problem that causes the vision to blur due to a cornea that has an abnormal shape. The lenses that are used for correcting this condition must be capable of changing the light's direction that enters the eyes.

Sometimes people face multiple visual problems. Bifocal or Multi focal lenses serve this purpose of correcting distance vision and near vision simultaneously. These lenses make use of different technologies to clear the blurred visions. The bifocal lens is divided into two sections and is used by people who suffer from both Myopia and Hyperopia. The upper portion deals with clearing the distant visuals whereas a small segment with visible boundaries in the lower portion makes the nearby objects clear.

Trifocals cope up with the visual problems that arise in the middle region which is usually formed in between the Hyper and Hypo areas. Initially a line is used to separate the three regions of vision from one another. Now-a-days progressive lenses, also called multifocal lenses, are available which are used to smoothen the lines between the three regions.

In olden days glasses were very heavy, lenses are made of glass which are heavy and subject to break in accidents. But plastic replaced this problem. Plastics weigh very less and hence it saves them from the risk of breakups and shattering. Plastic lenses can be designed with high index material which can help to reduce the heaviness of those lenses that are specifically created for correcting high power visions.

When eye glasses are covered with UV coating it protects the eyes from the powerful radiations of the sun.
