A-levels play an important role in your future education and career. Doing well in A-level examinations can become the launch-pad for getting into a reputed university and gaining a promising career of your choice. It is advisable for you to prepare correctly to achieve the desired performance.

Studying well for a subject requires relentless focus. To achieve this, designate an area in your home or any other convenient place for study. In order to do well in A-Levels, you need to give them all your attention. If you don’t do this it will be hard for you to do as well as you intended.

Some students are able to study better in a quiet atmosphere whereas some prefer light music playing in the background. Some claim that they are able to focus better on their studies when the television is on. Whatever your comfort zone may be, try to develop the habit of keeping aside a certain time of day/night exclusively for studying for your A-levels.

Sometimes, the unnecessary clutter in your study-room can confuse you about where to start and what to read. Keep your reference books, course material, stationary, computer ...
... and personal artefacts in separate sections, so that you can instinctively reach out to find what you need during study.

Keeping a study area well-organised helps create the right environment for you to study your subjects in-depth. Reading requires good lighting even if it is the computer screen you are reading from. The long hours of study will be most fruitful in a well-lighted space.

Making a daily/weekly/monthly timetable is important for you to be able to monitor your progress and manage your time well. Set small daily targets and strive to achieve them. Prioritising your subjects and course content will take away a lot of the stress that you will naturally feel at the start of a term.

Create work folders to organise content and mark/label them, so that you can browse easily for back and forth reference. The marked folders will also help you in ticking off the tasks as you complete them.

Understand your body clock and identify the time of day when you are able to concentrate the hardest. Keep that time aside for revising the subject matter you find most difficult. Likewise, it is advisable to study what you find challenging when you are feeling fresh because a tired body and mind are unable to tackle difficulties of comprehension.

Do not underestimate the importance of proper diet for aiding your education. The food you eat affects your mind. Heavy, greasy snacks will make you feel drowsy and lethargic, whereas fruits and salads will help sharpen your mind and keep you alert.

At regular intervals during your study, eat small portions of fruits and salads. Take time out in between study to stretch, walk and breathe in fresh air. Drink plenty of water as it boosts your metabolism including the thought process.

Keep in mind that the college you choose for your A-levels will help determine how well you do. You should therefore choose your college carefully. For example, to study A-levels in London, apart from the location and feasibility of boarding and travel, remember to research the college’s reputation, range of courses, fee structure and class size. Your college’s study environment and personalised attention by teachers will go a long way in ensuring the best results for you.
