Background Screening– Time To Measure The Real Value Of Your Employee
For almost every company, human resource is the most important asset which means that every corporate, from big to small, needs to take utmost care while taking someone on-board. The main reason behind it is the fact that a company incurs a great deal of cost in training their new recruits to turn them into productive resources. There are many approaches that companies take up to make sure that they are recruiting the most relevant ones, one of them being the employee background verification.
But why Background verification? Well, nearly 25% candidates are found to plump up their resumes, and there are numerous cases of forging and tampering various details. Hence, it becomes imperative to get an all-round check done on and about the candidate in order to make sure that whatever the person claims is true to its core.
Background verification has come a long way from just making a few calls to the employee references to making a 360o verification of employees. Most of the firms rendering background screening services swear by taking the verification through many levels and aspects. Such levels include that of Education ...
... check, Employment check, Reference check, Address Verification, CV validation, Drug Abuse test and Regulatory Authorities Database check.
For someone who is new to such service, these terms would hardly ring a bell. So getting a brief idea about each one would be a good thing.
Education verification enfolds validating the various degrees and certificates provided by the candidate, not to forget the authenticity of educational institutions in question. Employment verification is about checking and validating a candidate's records about the previous employments. While the reference check is about getting a better understanding about the candidates by talking to the professional and personal references provided by him, the address verification is largely about verifying his current, previous and permanent residences (as the need be).
Of these, CV validation is one of the most basic steps of background verification which is about checking for discrepancies between his employment form and his resume. The drug abuse test is generally done on the Urine or Hair sample. And, the regulatory authority database check is about checking the existence/non-existence of a candidate in the publicly available records.
Although it is a mature product for the Indian market, the increasing awareness levels among the organizations would only ensure, hopefully, that each person wakes up to the need of verifying and be verified.
