Wood beds have been used for ages – both because they offer comfort for sleeping and are long lasting and also because they are attractive to look at. However, today you find many options in even wrought iron beds and sofa cum bed and choosing the right bed for your home could be a little complicated. This is why; we will talk about the different sizes, the different styles and the different types available so that you get clarifications on what each bed type really means and how it will impact its surroundings.
Sizes in wood beds:
The sizes in wood beds vary across the world; yet there are a 3 most common types – wooden single bed, wooden queen size bed and wooden king size beds. The first is obviously a bed meant for single person to sleep upon and the size in India varies from 3 feet x 6-1/2 feet to even 4 feet x 6-1/2 feet. The queen size bed is 5 feet x 6-1/2 feet standard and king size beds are 6 feet x 6-1/2 feet. These dimensions are the ones covered by the mattress and that is why, mattresses come in the same sizes as these beds. A ...
... popular trend however is the modern platform beds; here the platform extends on all 3 sides, apart from the headboard side, and can vary from 6 inches to 8 inches and those dimensions are added extra to the previous dimensions mentioned. However, these beds are only suited for large bedrooms where one can afford an area of 7 feet x 7 feet or more given just to the bed, with bedside tables taking additional space on either of the sides.
Types of wood beds:
There are many kinds of designs in wood beds and all have different functions and features. Most of them will come as both wooden single bed and wooden double bed, and can be made with extra storage space beneath or in the head board. For example, an adjustable bed that shifts in to various heights is great for homes with older members, or if your parents visit you often. Then there are bunk beds, often is often a space saving wooden single bed used in dorms and children’s bedroom where one sleeping surface is on top of another. A loft bed is much like a bunk bed, instead the bottom bunk is removed for open space where either a fitted wardrobe or a study desk could be accommodated and is best suited for attic spaces and studio apartments which are essentially bachelor pads. A wooden box bed is one that is shaped like a box and has a top, sides and front panel all made with wood, the panels slide to open and these can give privacy if the bed is placed in open sleeping quarters, commonly a design seen in Scottish cottages. Other common styles are the four-poster beds which support a tester on 4 posts, a futon that is a Japanese style of bed which is smaller and suited for single person use and Murphy bed, which is a bed that hinged to the wall and can only be opened up when pulled upon in one room apartments where lack of space makes a traditional bed a hindrance in circulation space.
