Punjab Tourist Information
Punjab is an Indian state situated in the north-western region of the country. The states of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana border Punjab from all sides.
It also shares its international borders with the Punjab province of Pakistan. Some of the important cities in this state are Patiala, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Bathinda and Jalandhar.
Chandigarh is its capital city and Punjabi is the language widely spoken in the state. Punjab has the highest number of Sikh population in the world. The state has numerous manufacturing units and industries. During the 1947 partition, the state was divided between Pakistan and India.
Most of the industries in the state produce fertilizers, electrical goods, garments, bicycles, sewing machines, machine tools, water meter, sewing machines, scientific instruments, textiles and a host of other production units too. The Shivalik Hills and the Thar Desert ...

Festivals like Lohri, Teej , Baisakhi and Basant are celebrated with a lot of grandeur in Punjab apart from the other regular festivals in the country. Kissa is a practice of storytelling in the Punjabi language that varies from Arabian Peninsula and Afghanistan to Iran.
Exploring the State
Punjab attracts scores of tourists every year. It is dotted with numerous historic sites, great architectural marvels of the Sikhs and battle grounds. Some of the ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization are located in Punjab. The capital city of Chandigarh is said to be one of the most beautiful places to stay in the country.
The cities of Patiala, Kapurthala and Chandigarh are home to many popular monuments bearing splendid architecture. As per reports the Golden Temple, which is located in Amritsar draws more number of visitors than the Taj Mahal. The Harmandir Sahib is one of the most sacred places for the Sikhs.
The border between India and Pakistan is called the Wagah Border, and it is located on the Grand Trunk Road. The flag lowering ceremony is viewed by many people.
Ludhiana is an amazing place for shopping freaks. The Qila Mubarak, which is also called the Patiala fort, has many weapons used in ancient times and pieces of art in its display section. Sheesh Mahal and Sukhna Lake are other tourist attractions in the state.
The state is popular for its rich cuisines; the food is spicy and is a delight for any foodie.
Getting There
The Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport located in Amritsar is mostly used amongst the other six airports present in the state of Punjab. It receives flights from countries such as Toronto, London, Doha, Ashgabat, Dubai, Tashkent, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat. Tourists from other cities in South East Asia, Europe, USA or can book flights to the Indira Gandhi International Airport at New Delhi.
