About Microlight Flight Training
Whether you are interested in making a career in the Microlight industry, or just want to be a weekend flight jockey, proper training is essential for learning how to operate and maintain Microlight aircraft. Licensing is required only if a person desires to become a Microlight “pilot”. Training for “recreational sport” is offered by most schools in a series of training sessions totalling 10-15 hours. Training courses consist of dual flight instruction and ground instruction, during which the trainee must devote approximately 5-6 hours to solo flight time. Under a standard class schedule, the full training program can be completed in 10 -12 days. If classes are taken on the weekend only, it will take approximately one month to complete the full training program. Microlight training is only conducted by qualified instructors who are responsible for teaching the basics of Microlight flight. Trainee eligibility requirements include: 1) the trainee must be 15 years of age or older. A trainee under the age of 18 years requires a written consent from a parent or legal guardian, 2) the trainee must be capable of reading, writing and understanding the English language, and 3) the trainee must be mentally and physically sound.
