Definition:
A roller bearing is a small object which is used for the movement of a big size object. It can be in cylindrical or spherical shape. It also helps with weight distribution. Such roller bearing normally use in vehicles to move an object efficiently by decreasing the rolling resistance.
Working of Roller Bearing:
All bearings essentially survive on healthy lubrication. Under high temperature and pressure, bearing will cease to function well without lubricant such as grease. There are varieties of grease available to lubricate bearings depending upon the type of work it has to carry. For example; heavy machinery that uses roller bearing needs high temperature grease to sustain it for a longer period. Overhauling of bearing at regular interval by removing any dirt and applying new grease makes bearing function smooth for years. As the bearings are pushed to work, grease gets dissolved over a span of time and absence of grease causes friction of roller bearing with its inner and outer metal rings. This alarm for closer monitoring and sometimes even replacement.

" Outer ring: The large ring of the outer race
" Inner ring: The small ring of the inner race
" Rolling elements: Several balls or rollers that are contained in the space between the outer race and inner race
" Cage: Used to fix the position of the rolling elements
Types of Roller Bearing:
We deal with different sizes and shapes in it. There are three different categories as given below:
I. Cylindrical
II. Needle
III. Pins

I. Cylindrical Roller Bearing
Cylindrical roller bearings are well acquainted and commonly used roller bearing. It has a simple design like small cylindrical shaped bearings trapped between inner and outer metal rings which give rotation ability to either of the ring if the other is held fixed.
We deal with this roller which can handle a huge weight and reasonable amount of thrust since the load is distributed across cylinders instead of ball spheres. Additionally, Cylinders can provide the width of bearing to be larger than what ball bearing could provide.
Advantages and Applications:
Various Advantages are there of this bearing, like it has a great capacity under radial loads, it gives accurate guiding of the rollers and it restricts free axial motion. It can be used for various applications like Transmissions, Differentials, Rear Axle Shafts

II. Needle Roller Bearing
This is an alteration of the cylindrical roller bearing. It is different from cylindrical in terms of roller design capacity. The diameter of these rollers is thinner, so more and more rollers can be used per bearing. Casing is not available for a full complement needle roller bearings. In this type of bearing essentially one roller pushes against the other keeping everything in place
Advantages and Applications:
The main advantage of using such roller is that it has great capability under radial loads. Due to its high capacity under radial load it can be used for various applications like Transmissions, Alternators, Steering gears, Universal joints etc.
III. Pins:

The pin type cage has two rings one at each end of the rollers. Cage pins pass centrally through the holes of each roller and are threaded into one cage ring and welded into the other.
Advantages and Applications:
Pin type is popular for handling larger loads. Heavy industries such as automotive, Aviation, Aerospace, Power transmission use pin rollers.
