Though, according to the recent news on the Intel motherboards have disclosed that there will be a slowdown in the manufacturing of new boards for the next few years, yet the recent desktop motherboard, is still on the move. This is the Intel Desktop Board DG31GL, which we be discussing in the following section.

The Intel Desktop Board DG31GL differs from the other desktop Intel motherboard products. The specification that makes this board different is the absence of a parallel port and the absence of the serial port. There is one more features that makes this one differ is the serial port header, which is located next to the memory sockets. This requires specialized cabling or chassis, if it has to be used.

The Intel Desktop Board DG31GL is designed is such a way that it supports few processors such as the Intel Core 2 Quad, Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Pentium Dual-Core, and Intel Celeron processor. Each of these processors is ...
... put up in the LGA775 socket along with the 1066 MHz or 1333 MHz system bus. Reports say that the board would be able to support other processors in the future. The maximum wattage that this board can support is 95W. All these processors that are listed can be supported, only if it is within the 95W range.

The board comes with two DIMM sockets and there are few features that it supports. The features include 1.8V gold plated contacts and double-sided DIMMS that are un-buffered. The total system memory is 4GB and it uses DDR2 667 or 800 DIMMs. The minimum system memory that can be used will be 512 MB. Also, there are non-ECC DIMMs, DDR2 667 and 800 with SPD timings, serial presence detect. It uses the LGA 775 socket and the recommended customer price will be 51 dollars.

Its general features include hardware monitoring through Nuvoton Input/Output controller voltage. The controller voltage is to detect the power supply voltages that are out of range. You have the thermal sense to detect the thermal value. Three fan headers along with two fan sense inputs have been used on the board to monitor the fan speed activity. The ACPI, SMBIOS, and plug and play are supported by the presence of Intel BIOS, which resides in the SPI flash device.

Overall, the Intel Desktop Board DG31GL is rated at 4. With the board supporting many processors, the motherboard price is set at Rs 3000. Hope this review has illustrated all the important specification in depth!
