Shorts Have A Place, Just Don’t Misuse It
As centuries have come and gone the world’s style has changed as much as the face of the earth. Styles come and go and some tend to keep coming back. Although Women’s fashion is always being talked about, don’t discount the long history of Men’s fashion and its current place in our world today. Men face two main problems when it comes to attire, age appropriate attire and event attire.
Today I want to focus on warm weather attire and help all of those guys out with their wardrobe problems. Believe it or not almost all types of shorts have their special place in a guy’s wardrobe, even cargo shorts for men! Let’s begin by discussing the age appropriate arena when it comes to men’s shorts.
Young or old several short’s style can be worn to express one’s self. On that same note many have certain age appropriateness to them. Pleated shorts are defiantly in this category. Pleated shorts should never be worn by anyone under the age of fifty. If you receive them as a gift and you happen to be under fifty, please return them or only wear them to the overpriced golf course. Otherwise, the funny ...
... looks will ensue.
On the flip side, skater shorts or cargo shorts for men also have a place in this category. Skater shorts should only be worn if you’re under twenty-three or are in fact a professional skater. Even in the case of a professional skater, there are still appropriate times to wear these types of shorts. Unless it’s an extreme sports event, go ahead and leave them at home. Cargo shorts are similarly for the younger generation, but have fewer restrictions. With cargo shorts we tend to think that the older the gentleman the smaller the pocket should be. Leave the baggy; huge shorts for the freedom of expression youngsters under twenty-five.
The next category to look at is the event attire. Event attire in my opinion should be the easiest to dress for, but unfortunately this type of attire has led to inappropriate use of shorts. Let’s start with the ever present gym shorts. Gym shorts are for the gym. These light weight comfortable shorts are perfect for exercising or lounging around the house. Gym shorts should never be seen at the mall even with your coolest Miami Heat Jersey. Unless you are on your way to play some basketball, you will just look like a fool without any self-respect. This goes for all other types of specialized shorts, bike shorts and such should also not be seen out and about unless you’re using them for their intended purpose!
Event attire also includes special event attire. For most cases shorts should not be worn to extra special events. Weddings, business conferences and first dates are all inappropriate places to wear shorts. One exception would be a tropical destination wedding, in which case linen shorts or flat front pressed shorts could possibly be acceptable.
When it comes to events or even to everyday life, men should dress for the occasion with age appropriateness in mind just as much as a woman would. So feel free to wear those gym shorts to the gym, just please don’t wear them to go on that first date.
