Mba Or Not? A Piece Of Advice For Entrepreneurs
There are MBA programmes that have kept pace with the changing needs of the business community. Getting enrolled into such programmes will add value to your capabilities as an entrepreneur. There are some top-of-the-line distance learning business education programmes on offer, so you better join one before moving ahead with your business plans.
The power of the MBA has declined a bit. There was a time when corporates picked up MBA graduates as fast as the colleges could produce them. However, the enthusiasm for taking MBA's on board has taken a dip. There is a reason for that.
Many from the corporate sector and business research academia say that most MBA graduates have lost touch with the business world. The programme that was supposed to produce bright, snappy leadership now produces graduates that are high on theory but low on practical skills. They usually don’t know how to implement what they have learned to negotiate real-time business challenges. A big chunk of graduates who come out from several business schools are not leaders, but just functionaries. The programmes these schools offer, create narrow-minded ...
... business thinking that focuses on profit and share value, giving cold shoulder to ethics and sustainability.
However, there are quality MBA programmes as well, with evolving curriculums which have kept pace with the changing needs of the business community. People who have enrolled in these programmes have been able to prove themselves in a business environment. Not just the people in lower and middle management have benefitted from these degrees, but the people at the highest level including the entrepreneurs have learned many a thing when undertaking such a programme.
In fact, a well-designed MBA is one of the best tools a manager or a businessperson can receive. It makes a person more capable of performing in the global marketplace and teaches them adaptability which is an important attribute in today’s economy. While such courses teach students the basic rules of business, they also instruct them how to swim with the tide.
Several entrepreneurs ask why they should go for business management courses as they believe they will learn things on the job. However, such approach only brings in self-harm. Competition is hard and it won’t grant you time to learn. It will just brush you aside and take over.
You may learn a few things while running a failed business too, but that will be too expensive. A better option is to get enrolled in an MBA offered by a reputed institute. It will put finance, marketing, accounts, sources of capital and a host of other things into your mind, giving you enough skills to handle your business. A quality course will be low on theory and high on practical. So what you learn will be something that will really be useful to you.
Good MBA programmes create economic welfare by creating knowledge and disseminating it. When you join such a programme, you become a part of it. As an entrepreneur, you are important to the economy and if you are well-educated in ethical yet profitable business, you will certainly add value to it.
If you argue that you don’t have time to enrol into regular courses, MBA by distance learning may be the option for you. Some top-of-the-line distance learning MBA courses are available and you will do well to do a bit of research and join one of them.
