The Mystic Appeal Of Aizawl

Aizawl is the capital city of the Indian state Mizoram. It is the largest city of Mizoram and its commercial Hub. Aizawl is situated at an altitude of around 3700 feet above sea level and is surrounded by mountainous regions. It is rich in natural beauty and people go to the extent of saying that a trip to North East India is incomplete without a trip to Aizawl.
There are many attractions in Aizawl for the tourists. There are quite a few splendid tourist spots in and around Aizawl. The Vantawng Waterfalls is one such place. Falling from a height of 750 feet, it is the largest and highest falls in Mizoram. Tlanghuam is another breathtaking place in Aizawl. Situated at an altitude of 3000 feet, one can have a complete view of Aizawl from here. Then there is the Tamdillake which is another attraction in Aizawl. This lake is situated 60 kms away from Aizawl and is the most popular picnic spot for families.

Mizo food is also very attractive and visitors should definitely try out the delicious local food here.
Tourism in Aizawl is not really big but it serves as one of the ideal hill stations in India as it is covered by the picturesque peaks of Durtlang in the North and has the Tlawng and Tuirial rivers flowing below it in the West and South West respectively. With a standard temperature range of 10-30 degrees Celsius, Aizawl gives a pleasant and calming feel to the tourists. The best time recommended to visit Aizawl is from November to April because the skies are clear and because the most significant festivals and cultural events come in this period.
A visitor must bear in mind that a government of India permit is required to visit Aizawl. In fact it is true for all of Mizoram as it is classified as “sensitive area” by the government. The Indian visitors require an ILP (Inner Line Permit) which can be obtained from Mizoram government, liaison officers in Guwahati, Kolkata, New Delhi, Shillong and Silchar.
The Foreign visitors have to register themselves at the local FRO (Foreigners Registration Officer) of Aizawl within 24 hours of their arrival.
