Experience Italy

Traveling in Italy is suite to whatever type of personality you might have. Whether you're a food lover, a fashion fiend, an art enthusiast or you're a contemporary tourist who wants to try everything at least once in his life, Italy has something to offer you that will make your stay worthwhile. It will take a number of visits to the country for you to be able to explore everything that it has to offer and, for many tourists, a lifetime is not enough to learn every bit of Italy. Every trip to the country has something different to offer you so you will always want to keep coming back each year.

Where it is

Italy is located on the Mediterranean Sea and is bordered by Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and France. This boot-shaped peninsula in Southern Europe is also surrounded by the Sicilian and Ionian Sea at the South, the Ligurian, Sardinian and Tyrrhenian Seas on its western portion and the Adriatic Sea at the East. Traveling in Italy means learning a bit about their language. Italian is the major language spoken by a huge part of the country's population although you'll find quite a lot ...
... of dialects spoken depending on which part you're visiting.

The country is predominantly Roman Catholic so you'll find a lot of basilicas and churches all over the place. In fact, Vatican City, the center of Catholicism, is one of the two mini-states of the country. The other one is San Marino.

Traveling in Italy means visiting at least a few of its hundred cities. Some of the most famous ones include Rome, Naples, Milan and Florence, among others. If you love history, you want to start your tour of Italy in Rome because this is the country's capital and the site of the ancient Roman civilization. This is also where the Vatican is situated.

Rome is best enjoyed on foot. Traveling in Italy is never complete without exploring the quaint streets of Rome but don't be fooled by all the historical monuments because the city is anything but slow and laid-back. Drivers are always in a hurry in this city and you'll find thousands of mopeds scurrying to get somewhere. But don't worry, just keep on walking because interestingly, Italians are pretty good drivers. They can change their trajectory quickly so they can avoid hitting pedestrians. Besides, there are still a lot of places in Rome where you can really walk at a leisurely pace.

Now if you're traveling in Italy in the name of fashion, then it's best to head for Milano. The second largest city and known for being one of the major fashion capitals of the world, Milan is the home of the best fashion designers, the skinniest supermodels and, of course, the paparazzi. It's the most modern city in Italy. This is why traveling in Italy feels like going on time warp. You bask in history and go back to the past when you're in Rome and fast forward to the hip and chic present as soon as you set foot in Milan. But art is still a passion on this side of the country so you'll still find some traces of the past in the city.

Milan is every shoppers' heaven because this is where famous Italian brands and designers have set up their headquarters. The main shopping area in the city is called Fashion Quadrangle and features some of the most hippest boutiques in the world - Armani, Dolce and Gabbana, Etro - the who's who of fashion and everything trendy is here.

And then there's Naples - where pizza is said to be born. If you want to sample authentic pizza, you'll have to visit this city. More specifically, you'll have to try the pizza margherita, the original recipe that has tomato, basil and mozzarella - a quite simple fare as compared to the really mind-boggling varieties sold in stores today. They say that there's simply nothing like enjoying pizza in Naples. Eating it in another city, even if its an Italian city doesn't cut it. If you're traveling in Italy, you have to head straight for the real thing and eat in an honest to goodness pizzeria in Naples.
