The Exciting And Colorful Fair Of Pushkar

Pushkar is a Hindu pilgrimage site in Rajasthan. There is a Lake called Pushkar Lake which is considered to be very sacred and it is believed that if one takes bath into its holy water, he will surely remain liberated from all his sins. The Pushkar Lake stretches by 52 flights of steps called ghats. According to the myths, Lord Vishnu appeared at the Varah ghat in the form of a bore. It is said that Brahma took a bath here and performed Yagna at the Brahma Ghat.
Pushkar is located between deserts at a distance of 11 km from Ajmer in Rajasthan state, which is most significant religious place of Hindus. This city is surrounded by hills from three sides and sandpaper sandbanks on the other which make it a beautiful and charming city.
Normally, Pushkar welcomes small but continuous number of tourists for its elegant temples and amazing. But once in a year in the month of November when there is the full moon in the sky, there are thousands of people visiting the shrine as pilgrimage. Pushkar Fair, the wonderful five-day livestock and farm animals' fair, apprehended in the sacred city of Pushkar, in the terrain of kings, Rajasthan, draws crowd of travelers from all over the world. This annual fair occurs on the reservoirs of Pushkar Lake. This festivity is rejoiced from the starting of Kartik Ekadashi to ending of Kartik Poornima, the full moon date of Kartik in Hindu almanac.
Camel trading is a major activity at the fair when the vast expanse of arid sand is filled with thousands of camels. It is where the herders buy and sell their livestock and increase their network with the other serious traders and herders. People come here to buy and sell cows, sheep and goats besides just the camels. This fair has now become one of the largest tourist attractions in the country. There are many events that simultaneously take place here and attract an outsider.
The fair starts with a huge camel race. Now-a-days, the fair is not only famous for its history; it is also famous for various contests held during these 5 days. These contests can be anything from the Tallest camel to even a cricket match between the local Pushkar cricket team and tourists. The competition in the Pushkar fair can also be like a bridle competition and even a rooster fight as well. One can mesmerize self with the lovely music played by the local musicians and musicians which come from through-out the state. There is another competition happens regularly which is for the biggest mustache.
Body tattooing is another activity that is practiced during the fair. During the Pushkar fair you can also take pleasure in watching puppet performance, henna and bridal competitions, folk dance and acrobatic performances. For further entertainment you can also take a hot air balloon flights over the city of Pushkar and view the mesmerizing city of Pushkar and fair from above. Touring the city of 400 temples and 52 bathing Ghats on balloon gives a thrilling experience.
Traditional and antique Handicrafts can also be found as well. Women do the shopping at all these stalls on very economical price. Generally, the things sold in the fair are beautiful bangles, pleated ghagaras, and other beautiful jewelry, like anklets, necklaces, woolen blankets, brassware, textiles, ropes, saddles and other household articles.
The combination of different colors of the fair with the golden sand, the excitement, delightment, amusement and the confidence and enthusiasm of the villagers is a unique combination and a joyful experience for every tourist.
