Also known as the ‘Lal Qila’ in Hindi, it is the most popular landmark of the old walled city, Old Delhi. This fortress is one of the most extravagant architecture built by the Mughals in India. It was designed by the mighty Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648 AD. Shah Jahan created this fort to empower its sovereignty, but regrettably his authorities were apprehended by his son Aurangzeb before shifting to Delhi from Agra.

One of the two entrances of this jaw-dropping architecture, Delhi Gate, is the place where the prime minister of India addresses the people of the entire nation on 15th August of every year, which is the Independence Day of India. The second gate is known as Lahore Gate.

India Gate

Located in close proximity to the popular Connaught Place in Delhi, India Gate was built between 1921 to 1931 by the British Edwin Lutyens in honor of the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during World War I and the Afghan wars. And thus, it is also acknowledged as the “All India War Memorial”. Evenings are the best time to visit the place and you can get a taste of Indian fast food items such as Fruit Chaat, Pakodas and Bhelpuri.

Qutub Minar

This is another architectural wonder built by the great Mughals in 1192. Once there, It is highly recommended to read the message at the base of the minaret, as it will give you a glimpse of its past. Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is a remarkable astronomical observatory which was built by Raja Jai Singh II of Jaipur in 1774. This marvelous structure has an array of avant-garde instruments that take you on a joy ride of the entire universe and you will be glad to know that the entry here is absolutely free!

Lotus Temple

This stupendously designed worship house was made by the Bahai community in 1986. The temple derives its name from its shape which resembles a half-opened ‘Lotus’ flower. Constructed with white marble, cement, sand and dolomite, the temple is one of the finest examples of the contemporary architecture in India.

Jama Masjid

Situated near Sadar Bazaar in Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in the country. You can enter the mosque from both the southern and northern gates. Built by Shah Jahan in 1650, the place exhibits a mesmerizing architectural design with white marble and sandstone.
