Green Arkitektur- The Envy-ronmental Factor
Earth- the blue planet, or is it green? Well, a large part of it is mean to be. But urban encroachment, human vagaries and insensitivity are leading to large-scale depletion of its natural resources and the need of the hour is arkitektur solutions that will give our planet a helping hand. The earth is reeling under the pressure of modernization and technological development. Global warming is her way of protesting against the attack of humans. Very soon she will buckle under this pressure and will no more be able to support human existence. Environment-friendly solutions will have to be adopted by all contemporary arkitekter.
Green architecture is not an unknown concept. It is being incorporated into several construction and development projects, the world over. Buildings and the manner in which they are constructed are major contributing factors in degradation of the environment. Though awareness has not reached the levels that they should have, most developed countries have bodies and organizations that have been set up to look into the aspect of environment friendly or green architecture. Though there are several aspects that go into the implementation of green arkitektur, there are some basic ones that have to be adhered to. The location that you have zeroed-in on should be a minimal-impact one. This impact is with reference to the environment and ecology. Green landscaping, smart transportation, storm-water run-off control and erosion-reduction techniques should be incorporated. In addition to this, light pollution-should be curtailed. Smart energy strategies have be conceptualized and incorporated into the planning of green arkitektur. Efficient lighting, systems and appliances should be installed. Clean and renewable sources of energy should be used instead of conventional ones. Construction and design must be eco-sensitive.
Water is one more resource that is depleting at an alarming rate. Water wastage during building development should be clamped down on. The water fixtures and fittings should be smartly and optimally utilized. The landscaping that surrounds a building should be water-conscious. All arkitekter have to learn to curb resource and material wastage during various phases of development and construction. Water harvesting plants should be more of a mandate than an exception.
Another factor that has to be considered is the air-quality factor. The design should permit a lot of natural daylight to stream in. This reduces energy waste. Acoustics should be well developed and maintained. Natural plants should be placed in indoor-use areas as these help in improving air quality. Latest air-conditioning technology should be employed in structures that are centrally air-conditioned. Apart from all of these methods, we have to learn to use earth’s resources in a judicious manner and with a lot of sensitivity to our environment. Every individual strives to keep his/ her home clean, safe and healthy. Is the planet not our home after all? One that has been patient flexible and accommodating? The modern day mantra has to be -Reuse, reduce and recycle.
