Budapest's reputation as a food capital of the world dates largely from the late 19th century and, bizarrely, to a certain degree from the chilly days of communism. Budapest is one of those iconic cities of the world which is famous for the majestic Great Synagogue. There are many must-see sights around the city too, which will make the perfect holiday photo opportunities! The banks of the Danube are truly stunning and have been maintained as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Buda Castle Quarter, the Millennium Underground railway and Andrassy Avenue are also UNESCO protected and are most definitely worth a visit.

Best of Budapest city breaks for...

Budapest is a place to relax, with 80 hot water springs hidden around the city. There are also spas and thermal baths to enjoy on your stay in Budapest, where you can just sit back amongst the bubbles, relax and ...
... take in the marvellous architecture.

Both the Pest and Buda embankments of the Danube streching from the Liberty Bridge all the way up to the Margaret Bridge, the area encompassed by the Chain Bridge and some of the buildings belonging to the Technical University, the Gellért Bath, the Gellért Hill with the Statue of Liberty and the Citadel, the Castle of Buda, the Baroque churches and Turkish baths of the so-called Water Town - these are all parts of the World Heritage today.

Central market hall
The Central Market Hall (Hungarian "Nagycsarnok"), on Fővám Tér in the 9th district, is the largest indoor market in Budapest. It was designed and built by Samu Pecz around 1896. The market offers a huge variety of stalls on three floors.

Ráday utca - the Quartier Latin of Budapest
The former main street of the historical Ferencváros district in Pest has seen amazing development in the past 15 years. Ráday utca connects busy Pest square Kálvin tér with the southern part of the Grand Boulevard. Cafés, restaurants, bookshops and snack bars have popped up like mushrooms after the rain around Kálvin tér, and the street has been partially turned into a pedestrian-only street recently - only the bus nr. 15 is allowed to use the street in a protected lane.

Nightlife
Whether you like atmospheric jazz bars, outdoor music lounges or palatial dance clubs, Budapest's exciting nightlife always has something in store for you!

Every weekend, and even on most weekdays, people love going out in Budapest. Most clubs, pubs, strip bars and discos are open until very late or even the next morning.
