Delhi: Popular Tourist Destination In India

The National Capital Territory (NCT) of India, Delhi is the eighth most crowded city in the world. Delhi has evolved with many changes and holds a great Historic background. Many rulers of several Dynasties have rooted Delhi as their capital city. This has made Delhi a blend of many cultures and traditions. Delhi was described as Indraprastha, the legendary capital from the time of Mahabharata. Delhi features many historical places, monuments and sites which are evident of the ruling dynasties from Pandava reign to the Mughal Empire.

Delhi is considered one of the most prominent Tourist destinations from Historical point of view. Every corner of the city reflect its significant characteristics. The old Delhi depicts Muslim art form and includes the grandiose
Red fort also known as Lal Qila was erected by Great Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan during 17th century. Red Fort served as the residence of Mughal emperors. Shah Jehan made Delhi his capital after moving from Agra. Delhi served as the capital of Mughal Empire till 1857, when Bahadur Shah Zafar was dethroned by British Rule.

Chandni Chowk is an old market place constructed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan in Old Delhi. Chandni Chowk is situated near Red Fort and Jama Masjid. The market place was developed by Shah Jehan for his daughter to shop whatever she wanted to. The present Chandni Chowk is the largest whole sale market of Asia.

The modern day Delhi witness many constructions designed and uttered by Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. There construction includes
India Gate is respected as the memorial place constructed to honour the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the motherland India. The names of the soldiers who died during Afghan wars and World War I are engraved on the walls of India Gate. ‘Amar Jawan Jyoti’ a commemorative in the memory of Indian soldiers is constructed with black marble. The Republic Day parade every year passes through India Gate at Raj path.

Rashtrapati Bhawan serves as the President Palace of India. The construction was done in western and modern style. Rashtrapati Bhawan was erected in 1931 to serve the Governor General of India and was named as Viceregal Lodge. Post-Independence the place is serving as a palace to the President of India.

Connaught Place is one of the lavish shopping destinations in Delhi. Connaught place is more commonly known as CP among locals. It is a heritage building and houses many privately owned shops. The place also adorns many restaurants to suit the pocket and taste of every individual.

Delhi respects every religion and supports this fact with constructions like Akshardhaam Temple, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Jama Masjid, Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, Lotus Temple, Cathedral Church of redemption and many more. These places are a symbol of social integrity and sovereignty among Delhi people. Every religion is respected in the region.
