Being a student away from home possibly for the first time is a very daunting period in a young person’s life. If you are only a few hours away it won’t be as bad as being on the other side of the country in a large and strange city. And being a college student and having a credit card is almost a necessity now days.
It will help you cope with costs of living away from home and buying books that you will need. But be sensible about what you put on the credit card. Don’t over extend yourself and purchase more than you can afford to pay off in a reasonable amount of time.
By choosing the right credit card you can afford to pay it off even while paying off a student loan. Most lending institutions and banks have credit cards for college students. It gives them a new customer base to work from and if you make the credit card work for you it can be good accessory to have.
Choose a credit card with no annual fee, a period of low interest and if you can find one, use one that gives you something back. If you make a purchase there is usually a period of no interest, if you can, pay as much of your purchases ...

By obtaining a credit card that is designed specifically for college students you are on your way to finding a better job and getting a loan later in life.

If you can manage to pay off both a credit card and a student loan while holding down a part time job and studying, you are setting yourself up for the rest of your life.
This will show future employers that you are a hard working responsible person on their way to becoming a hard working and responsible adult.
If you let the credit card make you work for it you may end up losing your place in college because you have to get another job to pay the card off and don’t have enough time to complete the course work that has set.
Any bank will give out credit cards for college students; it is up to you to choose the one card that will work for you, by paying minimal interest while setting yourself up with a good credit history and an excellent credit rating while still at school.
