Light Up Your Delhi Evenings At The Lodi Garden Restaurant
The Lodi Garden Restaurant in Delhi is a name synonymous with good food, beautiful ambience and a big name on the cultural map of the capital. Situated in the heart of Delhi, it is still far away from the din, traffic and pollution of the city. The serene surroundings, adjacent to Safdarjung’s Tomb, takes you back to the days of the Mughal rule. The architecture of the restaurant has been planned keeping in mind its closeness to nature. There is a perfectly balanced, symbiotic relationship between the restaurant and its natural surroundings, each complimenting the other to create a harmonious atmosphere you will fall in love with. The gardens give the restaurant a touch of fantasy, secrecy and peace which you will find nowhere else.
The interiors too are well planned, using recycled materials like bamboo, cane, fallen tree trunks, bullock carts. The décor is a mix of rustic Indian, also incorporating the open spaces and laid back comfort of Mediterranean interiors. The restaurant is beautifully lit up with lantern and fairy lights, with transparent glass walls that seamlessly blend the ancient trees of Lodi Garden ...
... into the interiors.
The restaurant is easily accessible by road. The Lodi Garden Restaurant is easier to identify by its nearest landmark, the Indian Habitat Center, or the India Gate, which is barely 5 kilometers from the restaurant. You will always get an auto back to your hotel.
The Lodi Garden Restaurant’s original menu was the brainchild of the two most famous chefs in the country, Jiggs Kalra and Dean Bakshi. Originally conceptualized as a one-of-its-kind twin menu restaurant, it served Middle Eastern cuisine by day, whose menu was by Dean Bakshi, while the north-West Frontier cuisine menu had been done up by Jiggs Kalra. Over the years, the restaurant has undergone a major revamping in terms of its menu. Finally, in 2006, it shed its tag of twin-menu restaurant and became an authentic Continental restaurant. Its new European menu, drawn up by Inderpal Kochhar in 2006, is more of fusion food in terms of its Asian and African influences. Loyal clients however, will always have a taste of their original menu, some of which has been retained in house special dishes. The unique selling proposition (USP) of the Lodi Garden is its fresh ingredients, cooked in refined oil. The restaurant takes pride in rustling up dishes using seasonal ingredients and homemade spices. The restaurant also undergoes a major menu overhaul twice a year, so that it can incorporate the best of seasonal fruits and vegetables in their juices and dishes.
The Lodi Garden Restaurant is not known for its wine. However, it boasts of a fine collection of wine and single malts. It also serves cocktails and fresh fruit mocktails.
All in all, a dinner at the Lodi Garden Restaurant in Delhi is an unforgettable experience. The ambience of the restaurant adds to its food. It is also a hub of cultural activities, with book and poetry reading sessions, art shows, music gigs and movie screenings lighting it up nearly every week.
