Epson Achieves New Environmental Benchmark

Consumers and businesses that purchase Epson ink cartridges may be interested to note that the electronics company has enhanced its recycling system at its site in Shropshire. Epson Telford, which is responsible for producing ink cartridges and other products for the European market, now has a Zero Waste to Landfill Award in recognition of its waste disposal efforts.

It was encouraged to become an ambassador for the recycling process by waste management specialist Valpak and, in June last year, a team of auditors from Valpak were welcomed by Epson Telford personnel to audit waste streams and to establish the benchmarks for the award.

Valpak had identified an increasing requirement for businesses to demonstrate their environmental commitments.

In order to fulfil the criteria, Epson Telford had to reduce its landfill waste to zero and ensure that no more than five per cent of its waste was incinerated. It was also required to recycle 95 per cent of all waste and return it to the marketplace.

Meanwhile, people may be encouraged to buy more Epson printer ink thanks to the firm’s environmental policies. After all, consumers and enterprises alike are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of responsible policies towards waste disposal and recycling.

Now that it has received the award, Epson Telford will be assessed each year for continuous improvement. Staff members at the organisation are said to be working very hard to achieve a successful audit and re-accreditation at the end of the 2013.

Disposing of waste in the traditional ways is no longer an option for many companies in Britain and elsewhere because of the rising costs associated with sending unwanted items to landfill.
