What could be better than a refreshing dip in the pool on a hot summer day? A trip to the pool with friends and family is a great way to spend a holiday.

However, did you know that the simple act of swimming in a pool can pose serious risks to your health and, in some cases, even prove fatal? Make sure your swimming pool employs effective pool testing kits that check for levels of harmful chemicals in the water.

Chlorine is generally used in pools for minimizing the risk of transferring an infectious disease. However, no matter how clean a pool looks, it needs constant monitoring to provide a safe environment for swimmers. Water testing kits are a great way to do just that. These kits are accurate, user-friendly and work quickly, meaning there’s no need to wait hours for actionable results. Just like aquarium water test kits, pool kits can be broken up in two general categories: ...
... liquid and test strip. The former is used primarily for checking pH chlorine levels in the water, while the latter offers an efficient way to understand water composition and constituents such as salt, alkalinity and hardness.

How to Use Liquid Water Test Kits
Liquid water test kits typically consist of a container with liquid chemical solution. You’ll need to fill the container with water from the pool. It’s best to get the water from the deep end instead of the surface. Next, add a few drops of chemical to test pH and chlorine levels. Close the containers and give them a good shake to mix the samples and solution. As the sample changes color, you will be able to analyze the levels of contaminants in the water. For example, bright, vivid yellow tint indicates high chlorine content.

How to Use Strip Water Test Kits
Just like with drinking water testing kits, you’ll need to dip a test strip into a container of pool water. Be sure to leave your test strip submerged for at least thirty seconds to ensure ample reaction time. The strip should change color, indicating the level of chemicals or natural pollutants in the water. You can then match the color against a data sheet provided with the kit to learn more.

While these tests are simple to perform, they go a long way to preserving your family’s health. Water test kits are accurate for both indoor as well as commercial pools.
