New York Dental Implants: Amazing Innovations In Implant Dentistry, Part 1

The fields of fixed oral rehabilitation and New York dental implantology have taken giant leaps forward in the last 10 years alone thanks to the ceaseless development and improvement of medical technology, implant hardware and surgical techniques. Although dental implants have been around for over 50 years, it has been the advancement of the supportive technology and surgical protocol used to place them that has really made a substantial difference to the average patient’s experience.
In this two-part article series, we shall be discussing some of the incredible technological innovations that have raised the field of New York dental implants science to the incredible heights it is at today.
New York Dental Implants: 3D Imaging and Treatment Mapping
3D computer imaging has completely changed the face of modern dentistry. The sophisticated imaging equipment employed by CT Scans affords oral surgeons a view of the patient’s jaw and teeth that, previously, would have require surgery to determine. ...
... This not only saves time and the money patients would otherwise have had to spend on surgery, but also much pain and discomfort.
Modern dental implant procedures are incredibly precise and, being guided by sophisticated computer imaging and treatment planning software, boast a success rate of 97%! Thanks to 3D computer imaging, dental implant surgery is faster, safer and less traumatic than ever, with outcomes that are more predictable and longer-lasting.
Prior to a patient’s surgery, during the planning phases of the procedure, the oral surgeon will take a series of high resolution 3D CT scans of the patient’s mouth and jaw. These very realistic images enable the oral surgeon to plan dental implant procedures in great detail taking into account factors such as:
Jaw bone structure,
Teeth orientation,
Bone density,
The location of large blood vessels, and
The location of delicate structures, such as the nerve canal (lower jaw) and sinus cavity (upper jaw).
With such a detailed picture of a patient’s jaw bone anatomy, oral surgeons can determine with great accuracy which sites offer the best location for implant placement. Understanding where the nerves, blood vessels and sinuses are located helps to vastly reduce complications and risks, rendering modern dental implant surgery the safest and most predictable procedure today!
New York Dental Implants: Bone Augmentation
Bone grafting is an important procedure that enables oral surgeons to regenerate and restore bone tissue volume in tooth sockets that would otherwise not be able to provide support for dental implants. Bone volume is critical for the success of dental implant surgery and just as natural teeth require sufficient bone for support, so too do these artificial tooth ‘roots.’
3D CT Scans enable oral surgeons to determine what kind of bone deficiencies are present, if any, and then to decide to what extent the jaw bone needs to be augmented in order to ensure the maximum chance of success of the recommended dental implant procedure.
Bone grafting or augmentation can have a very important impact upon the long-term success of dental implants. In some cases, it is crucial if a patient is to be determined a candidate for fixed teeth replacement.
