Our World Without Hair Removal?
What if hair removal methods were not introduced? There would have been more cases of discrimination. You do not really need to ask why, do you? We all know that today’s generation (and even the generations before us) are populated by people who base their judgment on looks. Thank God for the people who invented the blade and the tweezers. You made our life tolerable. If we were alive in the 17th or the 18th Century Virginia, We would not have suffered this prejudice. But then, we would have suffered from a whole lot of worse things: inequality in everything, the Civil War, smallpox—the list goes on.
It is just as well that we are here. In this generation. In this realm. In this modernity. At least we have evolving medicine every day. At least women can vote, and black men are free. At least we have our civil rights. We are actually very fortunate. We reap the seeds our forefathers planted with their sweat and blood. We should be more sensible and focus on the bigger things like world peace—although I believe that ideal is extremely overrated. I realized by now that we can’t really achieve real world peace. What, ...
... with so many people eager to do wrong every freaking day. Some even do it just for the heck of it all.
But we have come down to this. Choosing to undergo painful hair removal methods to get inside the circle. Refusing to divert from the norm in fear of social persecution. It is sad. But that is reality, and we must face it with ready, willing, and resilient spirits. If not, how else can we survive? Good thing methods such as hair removal techniques are there to help us. We can go on living like completely normal human beings. It’s not that having excessive body hair is not normal. It is just different. And this generation’s kids are not very accepting of different.
Hair removal keeps us normal, ordinary. It helps us blend better to the crowd. This is a more beneficial thing for introverts and anti-socials. Being ordinary takes the attention away from them. But it can also benefit those who want to be popular. A little trim of the eyebrows can make a lot of difference to the eyes. A quick leg shave every other day can make you the it girl. Waxing your underarms—no matter how painful—makes it possible for you to wear any fashionable clothes you want to wear. We just don’t know it, but popular kids sacrifice a lot to be where they are at this moment.
There are more things that people do to feel their different kinds of acceptance. There are more than we dare think. The world cannot know. That is our individual secrets. We can’t be busted, else we will be subjected to a different kind of ostracism. Hair removal is just one of our ways to keep to the norm, to keep to the invisible social rule of conformity.
