Looking over the Seine, paddling across Venice, or sun-bathing on a Spanish beach are just some of the incredible perks of traveling through Europe. Not everyone has to have a private jet and a money-tree growing in the backyard to make it there. Learning where to cut a few corners, you can very easily have an enjoyable trip on a tight budget. Tried and true, backpacking through Europe is not only carefree, but easy on the wallet.
Traveling Europe in the off-season is one of the tourist's best-kept secrets. Staying away from the summer months will save you a pretty penny. Hostels, attractions, and even transportation are so much cheaper in the off season. Another pro of traveling off-season is the weather. The spring and autumn months in Europe are cool yet enjoyable. Avoiding summer will keep that hot sun off your back and keep your clothes sweat-free.
Transportation costs can take up a good part of your European budget in a snap. Try planning a few select countries to visit rather than trying to get everywhere. Not only will this enable you to enjoy each particular culture a bit more, but will help ...
... save a lot of money. Getting a Eurail pass can get pricey, but by sticking to just a couple of countries, it's a great inexpensive and comfortable way to travel.
The other big money-sucker in traveling is your accommodations. While there are pricey hotel rooms a plenty, why waste your money when all you will be doing is sleeping? One good tip is look to the locals. Many families offer bedrooms in their homes to tourists. This is typically a lot cheaper than a hotel and also gives you a genuine taste of the locals. Many travelers have found this to be one of the main highlights of their trip. If you're lucky, you could make a lasting friendship at the same time. If bunking up isn't your cup of tea, try staying at a family run hotel. Whether staying in the outskirts of a town, trying out a hostel, or sharing a hotel room with 2-4 people, your European accommodations don't have to be a financial nightmare.
Cutting the littlest corners, will help save a significant amount of money in the long run. Washing your clothes in the sink, shopping at the local farmers market, traveling during the night while you sleep, participating in walking tours vs. bus tours and avoiding unnecessary purchases will help keep your pocket book loaded. Above all, don't waste your vacation time. Always carry, travel software such as WorldMate, on your smartphone (I've got it on my Blackberry curve - love them both!) It comes equipped with maps, travel schedules, restaurant and attraction locations and booking devices.and it's completely free. What can get more budget friendly than that?
Here author Jeni Stevens writes on how to save your money on Europe tour. She also mentions of Worldmate Live a travel software, that will guide you in a right way. It serves you like a travel assistant. The author also says for the do's and don'ts for the tour. More information at: www.worlmatelive.com.
