No matter what kind of a computer user you are, it is quite commonplace to encounter different types of PC problems. Casual and heavy users often have to deal with a laptop that starts crawling at regular tasks like web browsing and media playback. This does not necessarily happen only with those computer users who have really old computers. Even if your laptop is just two years old, you can face this problem. While there can be many reasons behind a sluggish laptop or desktop, low laptop memory can be a factor. Nowadays, computer applications are quire resource hungry and installed memory may not be sufficient to keep them running properly.
To make a sluggish laptop run faster, laptop memory upgrade may be required. First of all, you need to check the amount of RAM installed in your laptop. Most basic laptops come with a minimum of 2GB of RAM. However, with modern uses and applications, this amount is just the bare minimum. You need to think of the applications that run at the background like antivirus suite, system tweak tools etc. Moreover, a lot of users listen to music while word processor app runs and a few web pages ...
... are kept open. All these apps can consume a lot of RAM together and naturally that takes a toll on laptop performance.
While a laptop memory upgrade can solve the problem of slow performance, you need to think of a few factors carefully before RAM purchase. First of all, you need to see if the laptop you have has space for memory upgrade or not. Buy additional RAM only if your laptop has vacant memory slots. The next thing you need to consider is the kind of OS installed in your laptop. Windows 32 bit operating stems can support up to 4 GB of RAM. Hence, if you want to install anything above that amount, switch to a 64 bit Windows OS first. It is necessary to check how much RAM is supported by your laptop as well.
Laptop memory upgrade is not a complicated process as such. However, if your laptop is covered by warranty then it would be good to get it done by company technicians. Otherwise, you may nullify the warranty of your notebook. However, if your laptop is not within warranty period, then you may try installing the additional RAM module yourself. There is no lack of audio visual guides in web on RAM module installation in notebooks and you can download those tutorials for free.
Some laptop manufacturers like Samsung also make memory modules. However, other laptop brands use third party RAM sticks for their models. Before you buy additional memory module for your laptop, check at the manufacturer’s website for compatible third party RAM brands. You can buy RAM for your laptop from various online computer accessory sellers nowadays. However, look for product warranty ad shipping policy of a store before you place order online. It would also be good if you check customer feedbacks of such a store.
