Bangalore To Mysore – From The Silicon City To The City Of Palaces
Bangalore or Bengaluru, the capital city of the state of Karnataka is located on the Deccan Plateau. It is a clean and spacious city full of ancient and modern structures, old temples, picturesque parks and gardens and other scenic spots. It is also a bustling, buzzing hub of IT and a city of shopping, dining and crazy traffic. Bangalore homes a number of educational, scientific and research institutions, high technology firms and many important government establishments. Bangalore can boast of a pleasant and cool climate throughout the year. It is the most preferred location for students and entrepreneurs.
Mysore, the headquarters of Mysore district is located at the base of the Chamundi Hills in the southern region of Karnataka. This beautiful city is the second-largest city in the state of Karnataka. The royal splendour of Mysore city can be seen in many of its palaces like the Mysore Palace, Jaganmohana Palace which also serves as an art gallery, Rajendra Vilas -the summer palace, Lalitha Mahal which has been converted into a hotel and Jayalakshmi Vilas. The distance from Bangalore to Mysore by road is 140 kilometres. The State Highway 17 which connects Bangalore to Mysore was upgraded to a four-lane highway in 2006 thereby reducing the travel time between the two cities. It takes a little more than two hours to reach Mysore which depends on the traffic conditions with many towns and villages on the way. The major places in between are Srirangapatna, Mandya, Maddur and Ramnagara. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and other private agencies operate frequent buses from Bangalore to Mysore. The ticket fare depends on the type of services provided like A/C or non A/C, Volvo etc. Alternatively, there are plenty of cabs available from Bangalore to Mysore which is very convenient though a bit expensive. One can also drive all the way up to Mysore along the well maintained roads with agricultural fields on the sides.
Travelling by train from Bangalore to Mysore is quite cheap and comfortable as well. There are numerous daily trains, both express and passenger from Bangalore to Mysore which takes approximately 3 to 4 hours. Bangalore Mysore Special (06222), Chamundi Express (16216), Tippu Express (12614), Bangalore Mysore PushPull Passenger (56238) and Malgudi Express (17304) are just a few of them. The fare and the time taken vary with the trains.
Air travel from Bangalore to Mysore is not possible. Mysore does have an airport but it is not functional. The nearest airport is in Bangalore itself. Terrace Gardens Bangalore and Crystal Paark Inn Mysore has good options for travellers.
