Safety Training: A Few Significant Concepts We Need To Learn
Fire is such a powerful word, not to mention a very powerful incident, which can cause panic and alarm when heard in a public place such as a workplace. It's as if nobody can ever escape this tragedy if one will not be aware of its occurrence and if a person does not know what to do.
In the United States, there are many factors that cause fires. About 38% occur in forest, rubbish, or grasslands, 21% in transport-related incidents, 10% in industrial buildings, educational, or institutional edifices, and roughly 30% in residential residences. Although industrial fires are only 10% in overall fire incidents in the U.S., still, experts say that it is important to lower these numbers to ensure safety, high mortality rate, and eliminate huge property losses.
Statistical surveys show that fires in workplaces is continually a big concern by many. Several factors can lead to fires in workplaces - industrial (dangerous substances), smoking materials, or wiring and appliances. Whatever the reason, it is important that the building has passed all state and federal laws concerning fire safety and must educate their employees ...
... or occupants on fire safety training.
Most people think that learning safety trainings are no longer necessary especially if they have been doing the same thing for years and nothing bad happened. In fact, some people even commit to believe that fires are accidents and accidents do happen. But the most important point that should be considered here is that with huge amount of money on property losses not to mention alarming number of lives perished in fires, all of these can be avoided. Safety trainings, advanced technologies, and even common sense can save hundreds and thousand of dollars and lives.
Here's a list of some concepts you can learn in safety trainings. Knowing these things may not only save your life but your love ones as well.
1. Emergency plan
With safety trainings, organizations can easily draft an efficient fire emergency plan. Fire emergency plans consider the distinctive features of the building and its occupants. Employees or building occupants should be able to access this information easily and should be provided by the company or building owner. Fire emergency plans are explained during safety trainings.
2. Fire as real emergency
Safety trainings will tell you that it is important to always treat any fire alarm as real emergency. Once you hear the fire alarm, call the emergency number right away. In the United States, it is important that every individual must know the emergency number 911. Calling 911 will help you solve the problem. Of course, you might think that somebody has already called since the alarm went off but you can never be too sure.
3. Never use elevators
In fire safety trainings, the number one rule is to never use elevators in case of fire. Three major reasons embody this rule:
Occupants may die of suffocation when trapped in elevators as elevator shafts can be filled with smoke
Elevators, in most case, fall during fire and can trap occupants
In unique circumstances, firefighters may need to access elevators in their operation
4. Meeting place
Another important factor that must be considered is the meeting place. During emergencies, occupants must have a designated place so that everyone will be accounted for after evacuation. Of course, it should be away from the building.
And the number one rule in safety training is for every building to have fire extinguishers within the facility. These tools help buildings set up protection levels for hazards and dangers that occurs during fire emergencies.
Indeed, every item, every point, every factor must be considered during emergencies especially fire as these can wreak havoc not only to the building and its properties but also to the hundreds of lives that may perish.
