If you’re about to get an e-commerce site up and running, or if you already have one but it’s not as successful as you would like it to be, there are ways to work with your web host to get the best possible website you could have. And by making just a few tweaks to your site, you could see your profits multiply tenfold, in a very short amount of time. Here’s how you do it!

Choose a managed plan
Having an online store doesn’t mean that you only have to worry about your website. Yes, this is your source of revenue; but you also have to worry about making shipments, collecting payments, organizing your books, and everything else that goes into making any business succeed. Because of this, put your website into someone else’s hands and let your Web Host manage it for you. This will include making any updates to the site that are needed, and possibly even designing the website, and all its different pages, for you. You’ll have much more time, and your website will be better for it.

Turn your focus from the home page to the product detail ...
... page

So many e-commerce site owners make the mistake of making their home page the best you can find online. It’s filled with testimonials, flashy images, and all kinds of talk about how great your company is. But that dedication doesn’t translate to all the other pages such as product detail pages. These are left very basic, very minimal, and are neither informative nor nice to look at. Do you know how much time your customers spend on the home page? Typically less than five seconds while they search for what they’re looking for. But how much time do they spend on your product detail pages? It could be hours! And it certainly will be more than five seconds. This alone should tell you that it’s on the product detail pages that you should ask your web host to be focusing on.

Offer customer service throughout the entire process
Ask your web host to see if there are any “Live Chat” buttons or other support systems that can be incorporated into each page of your website. Did you know that people will rarely ask for help if they’re having trouble online? In fact, the rate of cart abandonment currently sits at 60 per cent; and that’s usually before the customer has even reached the checkout stage. This is simply because online shoppers don’t lean on customer service as they do in brick and mortar stores. They feel alone (because physically, they are) and so, they simply give up and look onto other stores that might make the process easier for them. But if your web host can place a contact or support link or dialogue bubble on every page, the chances are much better that they’ll at least ask before leaving. And that’s all the time you need to convince them to stay.

Throwing an e-commerce website up onto the Internet and stuffing it full of products simply isn’t enough. Speak to your web host about ways you can make your e-commerce even better, and even more successful. The chances are that the host can probably do it for you!
