The Human Resource department in the oil and gas sector is under a serious talent void trouble. Various survey reports and interviews of the HR personnel from the oil and gas industry has revealed that the sector is going through skill shortage issues greatly. As per the HR in Oil & Gas, a great proportion of their leading workforce, say around 51 percent is about to retire soon. It certainly calls up the need of recruiting new and able employees. But the catch is that most of the potential employees from current generation are lured by the booming sectors of IT & Outsourcing and hardly concentrate on the traditional industries of oil and gas.

Now, how to overcome the issue? The primary thing is to make the Gen Y aware on the significance of the oil and gas sector. As the modern genre is highly influenced by the social media sites, putting up advertisements, focusing on the positive impacts of working in oil and gas industry could be an effective step. The market reports show that in 2011, nearly 40 percent of the hires in the oil and gas industry were the direct result ...
... of advertisements, both online & offline. Besides, candidate focused recruitment pitch is also necessary to hook up potential candidates to the sector.

Employee retention seems to be another big issue for HR in Oil & Gas. Candidate centric training approach seems to be a viable strategy here which won’t make the candidate feel unaligned with the objectives of the industry.

As oil & gas features global workforce, naturally, the one-size befits all technique won’t work here. The HR department in the oil and gas space has to come up with culturally appropriate customized training approaches that would be able to achieve the effective commitment and involvement of the workers from various cultural backgrounds towards the industry. Increased and flexible compensation facility is needed as well. A large number of HR professional from the oil and gas sector reported that enhanced compensation is one of the most vital solutions to keep the employees attached and loyal to the companies.
