Land Rover Discovery 3.0 TDV6 Diesel Engine Review

In 1989, a British Engineering marvel, the Land Rover Discovery was launched. It had a spacious body that was mounted on a Range Rover chassis, powered by a diesel engine. It made a great impact on the sales of estate cars by using the emerging MPV phenomenon. Land Rover launched the Discovery 3 in 2004. This was not just some ordinary improvement – it was a gigantic step by the manufacturer– which took the Discovery to the top of the off-roader class. Discovery proved itself as the most relaxing and comfortable yet next to unstoppable off-road. It received an update in the 2009 and was given a larger diesel engine. To recognise the Discovery among all others, even a birds' eye view is more than enough; it has bluff nose, straight bonnet, stepped roof and the wrapped side windows at the rear.

It was an obligation for Land Rover to offer a class-leading range of abilities, which resulted in restructuring the basic structure of car's body. As a result, the Integrated Body Frame came into existence, emerged two separate chassis and put underneath the Discovery. ...
... For splendid off-road performance, it uses a ladder chassis which offers strength. Thanks to the air spheres for springs and the double wishbones at corners, the on-road performance is unmatched. Each and every Discovery comes with a magnesium crash structure, air suspension and Land Rover's trade name – The Terrain Response System – this electronic manager automatically adjusts the throttle response, ride height, shift pattern and stability controls according to the landscape.

Needless to say, the car manufacturer is highly devoted in offering their customers more than what they would have ever imagined of. The car combined an electronically controlled gearbox, with locking rear differential and computer controlled centre differential for extreme off-road and on-road experience. However, it is evident that no car in the world would provide the quality comfort, enormous space, security and safety features that the Discovery is providing. It has three individual chairs in the middle row, which provides excellent support for the passengers. The brilliantly executed third row's folding seats are simple and large enough to house fully grown adults. The onboard security features include: twin front air bags, full length curtain side air bags, three point individual belts, and optional curtain air bags for the third row passengers.

The Land Rover Discovery engines come in two petrol units. A 4.0-litre V6 215bhp unit that generates 365Nm of torque, sprin from 0 to 62mph takes just 11.6 seconds, returns a combined economy of 18.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 359g/km. The other is a 5.0-litre V8 370bhp engine that produces a massive 508Nm of torque, and takes only 7.9 seconds to reach from 0 to 62mph, has a combined economy of 20.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 328g/km. The Land Rover Discovery Diesel engines include: a 2.7-litre TDV6 118bhp generating 441Nm of torque, zero to 62mph in just 11.6 seconds, combined economy of 30.7mpg with CO2 emissions of 244g/km. then there is a 3.0-litre TDV6 241bhp unit that produces massive 600Nm of torque, and takes only 9.6 seconds to do a 0-62mph sprint has a combined economy of 30.4mpg with 244g/km CO2 of emissions.
