Science Fiction Or Science Fact? Crystalens Lens Implants To Improve Your Sight

Have you reached the point in your life where you have to hold a menu or newspaper away from your face to read it? Do you keep reading glasses in your pocket or around your neck? It seems a right of passage for all of us; as we age, the lens in our eye becomes less flexible, changing our vision. Called presbyopia, this loss of near and intermediate sight is typically a part of life we are taught to accept...until now.
It may sound like science fiction, but an eye surgeon can actually put an artificial lens into your eye to potentially improve your vision. A lens implant actually mimics a healthy lens, in some cases bending and flexing to help you see more clearly. An implant can potentially correct your vision issues, erasing the need for corrective lenses or glasses.
At the forefront of artificial lens implants is Crystalens. Crystalens not only works to correct near and intermediate vision, but can also treat cataracts which can cloud a portion of your sight. One of the first surgeons in California to use lens implants was Dr. Khodabakhsh, who is also nationally recognized for his expertise with Crystalens implants. ...
... At the Beverly Hills Vision Institute, Dr. Khodabakhsh’s considerable skills can help you to safely obtain optimum vision.
With cataracts and presbyopia, you can choose from a variety of artificial lenses, more commonly referred to as IOL’s, or intraocular lenses. Standard monofocals offer a fixed lens that allows you to see at just one distance – typically far. As a result of surgery, you will need to wear glasses to see close-up. Multifocal IOL’s use multiple visual zones built into the lens itself, similar to a target. Intermediate vision is often compromised, and your brain must adjust to the changes in these zones, which can lead to certain vision complications after surgery.
Enter the “accommodating IOL,” under which category Crystalens falls. This type of lens implant flexes with eye movement, using the eye’s muscles to focus at various distances. With an accommodating lens, your eye can easily adjust to objects near, intermediate and far away. As the only FDA-approved accommodating IOL, Crystalens can change your perspective, literally. They can reduce your dependence on glasses or contacts, and help you see better at any distance.
