Alibaug, a Weekend Destination
Alibaug is called “Little Goa of Maharashtra”. Alibaug is the most popular weekend destination among the people of Mumbai and Pune.
Alibaug has inspired many bollywood directors to shoot movies on this beach. It is the perfect place for joggers and walkers. For adventures, there are water sports. Or just spend whole day on the beach relaxing and swimming.
Alibaug is best reached by private boat or ferry from the Gateway of India, in south Mumbai's Colaba area. The journey takes around 45 minutes to get to Mandawa Jetty. From there, the beach is another 30-45 minutes away by bus or auto rickshaw.
Alibaug can also be reached by road. The journey takes around three hours from Mumbai.
Visit Alibaug between November to February, when the weather is the coolest. From March onwards, the temperature starts rising before the monsoon sets in June. Due to its close proximity to Mumbai and Pune, Alibaug has become a popular weekend destination. It often gets crowded then, as well as during summer school holidays in April and May. Weekdays are the most peaceful.

Kolaba Fort (Alibaug Fort) built by Shivaji Maharaj in the sea about 1.5 kms from Alibaug shore and one can walk to the fort during the low tide.
Kanakeshwar Temple, this attractive temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. You have to climb 700 odd steps to reach the temple, but it’s definitely worth the effort. Built in 1764, this temple is a delight with its extensively decorated colourful miniature idols of the gods.
Nagaon light house is just opposite to Nagaon beach. You can have a closer look by boat from Nagaon beach.
