Nissan Leaf Is An Electric Pioneer
Nissan Leaf has been built from the start as a vehicle which runs purely on battery power unlike other electric cars which run on both. The big point is its range of 100 miles between charging the battery which is plenty for just commuting around the town. It is a not cheap car to buy even though the UK Government offers £5,000 electric car grant, but it is not very heavy on your wallet when it comes to running costs.
The Leaf’s body is designed with maximum efficiency in mind. Its slippery front end and long tail enhance aerodynamics, while its tall bodywork accommodates the large battery pack under the floor. The looks of Nissan Leaf are like marmite, either you love it or hate it. The interior is full of digital dials, a central screen and it even gives sci-fi sound effects when you start the vehicle, giving the car a futuristic feel. The Leaf has a fun drive as the electric motor makes 108bhp alongside the 280Nm of torque. The torque makes the difference and it coves 0-62mph in 11.9seconds. The top speed is just 89mph but in actual fact it feels quicker. The focus is on ...
... comfort and the soft chassis, single ratio gearbox and light steering make it relaxing and easy to drive.
The Leaf’s interior is remarkably packaged, bearing in mind the battery pack is under the floor. It is spacious too as three adults can fit easily in the back and then there is a handy 330 litre boot. The seats are adjustable too making it a relaxing place to spend time. However it lacks practicality when it comes to charging, you have to charge it for eight hours after every 100miles. In reality it isn’t an easy task to reach 100-miles unless your easy on your right foot and drive it on eco mode. It increases brake energy regeneration and reduces motor’s output.
The Nissan Leaf is pollution free which means it is not only road tax exempted but also exempted from London congestion charge. Nissan claims that the Leaf will cost just £257 in electricity bills over a year. There are lots of public charging points available now so it is easy to charge. Automatic headlights, keyless entry, sat-nav, rain sensing wipers come fitted as standard. You can also use your mobile to monitor the level of charge. It does however has some drawbacks; it is expensive and has a limited range. Nonetheless, it has a spacious cabin, low running costs and smooth power delivery.
