New Records In Gmat Testing
This sudden rise in GMAT Test Takers is to some extend being credited to the introduction of new section named Integrated Reasoning Section as part of GMAT Exam from 5th June 2012. This is an observation that the test volume increases prior to any changes are carried out in the standard test format.
“2012 was a remarkable year,” said David Wilson, GMAC president and CEO. “GMAT testing rose from 2011 to 2012 in all world regions. The number of programs receiving GMAT scores rose to an all-time high. Today’s global students — who may be a citizen of one country, study in second and choose to work in a third — recognize the significance and the superiority of the GMAT exam in gaining admission to the best management programs around the world,” Wilson added. “The record volume reflects an increase in graduate-level business and management programs that use GMAT exam to support their admissions decisions, in both MBA and other programs.
“Business and management skills are needed more than ever in an ever increasing variety of organizations. ...
... Business schools have responded by offering a deeper portfolio of programs to meet these diverse needs,” Wilson said. “The number of score reports sent to MBA and other programs were both up, but those to the specialized masters programs grew even faster.”
5281, number of programs where GMAT Score was sent in 2012, is 7 percent higher than what was in 2011. Out of total scores sent to different programs in 2012, around 70 percent were sent to MBA and EMBA while rest were sent to other programs such as accounting, finance and management. 2012 marked further internationalization of GMAT marking the fourth straight year when US citizens were outnumbered by prospective student peers from around the world. In 2012, non-US GMAT Test takers represented 59 percent of the total volume as compared to 55 percent in 2011.
Another noticeable trend in 2012 was sharp hike in number of the second largest citizenship group after US. The Chinese GMAT takers increased around 45 percent to 58,196 which was 40,069 in 2011. The third largest citizenship group, Indians represented around 11 percent of total test takers. The number of women taking the GMAT increased for the seventh consecutive year in testing year 2012. Total number of women GMAT Test takers was 42.9 percent in 2012 which was 41 percent of the total takers in 2011.
