Antique paintings are being loved by everyone. It is an art form which has been created centuries ago and has a great value in the market. Portrait painting was limited to only rich and famous. With the coming of different forms of painting, a new direction was given to the art form. Woodcuts printing changed the art form.

When printing press was not created then books were created in a limited number. Books could not be read by every common man. It was expensive also. When woodcuts printing for animals and birds were started then books could reach out to larger number of people.

The Concept: The original place for woodcuts printing lies in China. It was used for religious purposes only. It moved to Japan. The technique of carving and cutting was taught by Chinese and Koreans. Japan contributed to this technique quite a lot.

Color: When printing was started then it was done in two colors that are black and white. The Japanese made it three color printing. It added sophisticated to its work. They used to have eight to eleven blocks to make the final product look nice. This concept came in around ...
... 1700th century. The shading affect could make the woodcuts painting look like a painting created by a famous artist.

Technique: A drawing is created on a piece of wood. The parts which are not to be printed are cut from the wood. The drawing has been craved with a knife with all the details. When paint is applied on it and it is printed on paper or cloth the details of the painting can be viewed very clearly. Woodcuts printing started on paper for creating illustration books. Later on it moved on to cloth. When the shading technique came in, it made the cloth look even more attractive. Later on this technique was used for line printing which lead to the creation of printing of illustrated books.
