The New Audi A3 Beats The BMW 1 Series On Style And Quality
The latest Audi A3 is an attractive luxury hatch. Its styling is lovely and the quality of interior is exquisite as expected from Audi. It has more relaxed drive as well as better ride quality. It is a strong competitor for the BMW 1 series but with a slightly different approach. The A3 also rivals the VW Golf although it is a little pricier. Best of the bunch is the 1.6 TDI engine and the quick 1.4 with cylinder deactivation technology. Audi's doesn't change its design too quickly; hence you will struggle to notice a big difference between an A3, A1, A4 or the A6.
The A3 is a smart, stunning car with some precise detailing, particularly the lights. But the most impressive thing is its styling and interior quality. The cabin is brilliantly designed with high quality materials and plenty of kit. Every car gets a 5.8-inch screen that comes out of the dash and is controlled by Audi's MMI controller. If you opt for the standard suspension, you will notice that Audi has let go of some handling in favour of comfort. The A3 is still tidy, if not exciting. The ...
... best of the bunch is the sweet 1.6 litre TDI and the smart 1.4 petrol, neither is too quick, but have a really nice ride.
The 1.8 litre petrol is faster, while the 2.0 TDI is very impressive and economical. You get full set of airbags plus stability systems and anti-lock brakes as well as lots of electronic driver assistance systems. These systems include a radar-controlled cruise control to keep a distance with the car in front, lane keeping assistant, traffic sign detection and a pre-sense system to prepare the car in case there is an accident. It will even park itself for you. The new Audi A3 isn't any longer than its predecessor.
The car has a spacious interior and it is wider too. Getting to the rear seats is not hard and the boot capacity has been increased by 15 litres to 365 litres. Both diesel models are not expensive to run. The 2.0 TDI acclaimed fuel economy is in the high 60s and CO2 emissions are just 106g/km. It is not expensive to own an A3 now as the petrol engines do a good job of minimising costs. The new 1.4 litre Audi A4 petrol engine with cylinder deactivation system should steal the show. It has a bit tighter rear space, it is expensive and it is not fun to drive as the 1 Series. It has a spacious interior, comfortable ride and a fantastic cabin.
