Mazda MX-5 2004 Engine Review

Back in 1989, there was not a mass market for sports cars before the launch of Mazda MX-5. Right after its launch, it became pretty obvious that now the sports cars would have a bright future. Ever since the termination of the old Lotus Elan, the car enthusiasts were desperately longing for a fast sports car. As a two-seat roadster, when it reached the Britain in early 90's, undoubtedly, it instantly became the most desirable car. Arguably, it was the world's most written about and affordable car. By the end of 2000, Mazda claimed the MX-5 to be the all time biggest-selling sports car.

It was said that the Mk1 sold over 431,506 units while the Mk2 hit the figure of 290,123 units across the world. The Mazda was hoping to break its own record with the new MX-5 Mk3. Till the end of its production in 2005, the retiring version of Mazda's two seat roadster was still the hot cake among the buyers. They were not worried about the dated cabin or anything else, because that model was very affordable. 2009 was the year when Mazda face-lifted its most popular roadster. The third generation model ...
... recalled the distinctive flavour of its ancestors, but at the same time, offered durability, space and safety of a completely modern car.

This model was bigger, better and spacious than its predecessors. It has been given a whole new high tensile steel structure, known as the “monocoque” structure, which improved the torsional rigidity by 47 per cent. The engine and the fundamental body parts are all made of aluminium. The car received new redesigned bumpers and at the front it is housing Mazda's new five-node grille. The revised suspension geometry has lowered the MX-5's ride height. Inside, the new cabin of Mazda MX-5 is roomy and more stylish. Steering wheel is available with height adjustment feature. Seats are really supportive and provide a better visibility.

Two Mazda MX-5 engines are offered in petrol. A 125bhp 1.8-litre which generates 167Nm of torque and 174g/km of CO2 emissions. It takes 9.4 seconds to complete a 0-62mph sprint. It returns a combined economy of 32.2mpg, uses 5-speed manual gearbox and is rear wheel driven. The 2.0-litre engine comes with 160bhp producing 188Nm of torque. The emissions are 183g/km and 0 to 62mph value is 7.9 seconds. The combined economy is 30.5mpg; it is rear wheel drive with five-speed manual gearbox. In the Mazda 2.0i Sports, air conditioning, bespoke Bilstein dampers, six-speed gearbox, cross brace, Bose sound system, heated seats and cruise controls are offered.
