While eating in a specialty restaurant has its advantages, eating in a food court has a charm of its own. With people all around you, talking, kids screaming, the atmosphere is that of one big mela.

Another plus is that since there are many food kiosks, one can choose from a variety of food that is available. Though there are not very many such food courts, the one (2nd floor) at DLF Mall, Saket is a foodie’s delight. With food brands like Dominos, McDonalds, Haldiram’s, Subway etc, two food kiosks are attracting people to its counter: Tikka Town and Orient 8.

As the name suggests Tikka Town serves north Indian cuisine. While there are many restaurants that are serving north Indian cuisine, what sets Tikka Town apart is that not only is the food here value for money, but is also very delicious. Take for example the Jodhpuri Palak Parantha. As far as paranthas go, this one is as good as it gets. Served with daal makhani and dahi each bite of it is a delight and even though quarter way through one gets full, one wishes there was more space in the stomach.

To wash down the parantha is the shikanji. Cool ...
... and refreshing this one makes for a great drink especially in this hot weather. North Indian food is not complete without chicken. For the non-vegetarians there is tandoori sampler. Chicken tikka, tandoori chicken and mutton seekh kabab. The tikkas are succulent and spicy, the chutni adds to the flavour of the seekh. Besides this there is biryani, regular thali, kathi rolls (veg and non-veg) and chaawal meals.

Indians love for food from South East Asia is growing by leaps and bounds. With many specialty restaurants serving Thai food with Chinese thrown in, Delhiites are experimenting with their food. Orient 8 at DLF Mall serves food from eight countries—China, Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

While Chinese food is a favourite with Delhiites, it is dishes like Vietnamese noodle soup, Burmese Khao Soi and Thai green curry that people love to eat. The Burmese Khao Soi served with peanuts fried onions etc is a real treat to eat. They say looks are deceptive and the same holds true for the Vietnamese soup. The soup looks washed out, but the taste is superb. The chef has certainly not gone overboard with the spices, as is the general rule in most food court kiosks.

While many people eat at food courts after they are done with their shopping, how about visiting these two just for the excellent food they serve?
