Website Design Mistakes To Avoid
An attractive, dynamic and visitor friendly website design is an important internet marketing tool for any kind of business. It’s critical in this age where people seem to automatically go to the internet for information. But sometimes over enthusiasm over having a clever website design defeats the purpose of having it in the first place. Here are some common mistakes to avoid that will eventually help internet marketing strategy.
Copycat design
Your website shouldn’t be a copycat of your competitors’ websites. Not in style or color scheme or in apps. While there may be similarities since you are in the same business, still, your website design should uniquely express what your business is all about—its values and its vision. It’s part of internet marketing integrity.
Complicated design
Well balanced use of symmetry, shapes, text breaks and color as well as easy page reloading and intuitive navigation always win against a website that is too many whistles and bells. Strive for a design that’s classy and yet provides the web visitor with a pleasant experience. For instance, in a website layout, ...
... visitors’ eyes should be led by the positioning of the banner or an image, through the text and ultimately to a call to action or further exploration of the website. Part of having an effective internet marketing plan when it comes to web design is that there’s a reason for every element and its position on the webpage.
Too simple design
On the other hand, it’s bad internet marketing to settle for a very simplistic and static design. You might be going for a minimalist effect, but sometimes too little is just that—too little. Bland. Lacking oomph.
Static Content
So you’ve got the website design elements like white spaces, typeface, font color, etc. in a good balance. The website is pleasing to the eye and catches attention long enough for visitors to go through the page and perhaps even the subpages. In fact, they’re so impressed they come again…only to be disappointed by finding the same content they did last week.
While internet marketing calls for some content to remain consistent such as your contact form or company profile, freshly written and regularly updated content is always a come on for website visitors. And no matter how cliché or even overused it may sound, the battle cry “Content is king” still remains to be true where internet marketing is concerned.
Text and information overload
There seems to be an irresistible pull to fill up your website design with all the information you can cram into it. It’s like wanting people to get everything at a glance. Unfortunately too much text is a turn off for visitors. Be sure to have a good balance between white spaces, text, content, color and movement. The principle “less is more” also applies to internet marketing.
Unnecessary use of music
Unless you’re an online music store or a music school or a business that really has got something to do with music, your internet marketing strategy should AVOID incorporating music into your website design. Nothing gives the user a near heart attack than having music suddenly playing when they drop by your website. Chances are, they already have their own personal background music as they putter around the internet.
To summarize, your website design should be unique, tastefully and intuitively put together, offers fresh and useful content on a regular basis, and does not use music. Always remember, when putting your internet marketing plans together, particularly creating your website design, put yourself in the shoes of your website visitors.
