Toyota Verso – Economical And Practical
Toyota Verso offers limited choice for buyers when it comes to engines. It has one engine and two transmission options. These limited options will definitely come back to haunt Toyota as they have decided to launch the Verso only with a 1.33 litre petrol engine. The car has a very good package and plenty of space at the back but will it be enough to take on the mighty Vauxhall Meriva.
Toyota Verso only has one petrol engine; 1.33 litre delivering 98bhp and 125Nm of torque. Buyers do have a choice of manual six speed or semi-automatic CVT transmission. However, the engine with the manual gearbox is the best option for comfy driving and going on long journeys. The CVT gearbox is like marmite either you like it or hate it. The Verso S is actually a fun car especially turning corners. The body roll is minimal and there is good grip at the front end. The steering is disappointing but once you push the Sport button in auto mode the steering becomes lighter.

... noise. The wind noise from the mirrors and A-pillars is also a problem on long journeys. The seats provide good support for your back and visibility is good with high seating position. It is very useful for those driving in restricted city streets. Small, spacious and smart, well that’s the marketing tagline for Verso but to be fair to it, it’s not a completely vain description. The rear seats can be lowered with one click. The boot capacity is 336 litres with seats up and when the seats are down it increases to 393 litres.
Toyota Verso has been awarded full five stars by the Euro NCAP crash testing. The driver and front passenger airbags, driver’s knew airbag, curtain airbags, front side airbags, Isofix fixings on the rear seats, front and rear seatbelt reminder system, passenger airbag cut-off switch, front seatbelts with pretensioners and force limiters, EBD, ABS, VSC+ with traction control and EBS come as standard in the Verso. Normally once you have bought a Toyota you don’t need to worry anymore but this clean image has been tarnished due to recent recalls around the globe. Nonetheless, this new Verso S should be reliable as it has been fitted with reliable and proven engines and the parts are solidly engineered.
