The Ford Focus is now three generations old and the latest generation has an array of hi-tech gadgetry, new chassis and a superb new turbocharged EcoBoost petrol engine range. It is a pleasure to drive the new Focus as the ride is polished and it's even roomier. The ride quality has improved significantly. Ford Focus can be bought in two body styles; a five door hatch back and an estate. Ford Focus doesn't have the stylish look but overall it has a neat shape.

The detailing is also a letdown as the huge gap at the front and the triangular air intakes look out of style. Some bright new colours and a mix of alloy wheel designs help make the rear look better. However, MKIII Focus is not one of Ford's top designs. The SEAT Leon is more glitzy and VW Golf is more attractive. The interior is cool as it gets smart dials, blue lighting and a neat piano-black covered centre console. The switchgear is made from very high quality materials. The Ford Focus remains the best car to drive in its class as it is much more fun to drive than a VW Golf and Vauxhall Astra.

... achieves this class leading characteristics by having a precise steering and a responsive chassis. Focus feels like a big car as it is quiet at high speeds and gives a relaxing ride. Focus comes with lots of engine choices with 1.6-litre petrol engine ranging from 104bhp to 180bhp and 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels giving out 95bhp to 161bhp. The 1.6-litre EcoBoost is another great engine, but it's not cost effective. The 113bhp 1.6 TDCI Zetec is economical and gives 67mpg. Ford has improved its reliability record so Focus is expected to make very few visits to the mechanics.

Focus has a full five star Euro NCAP rating so safety is not an issue. It is equipped with front, side and curtain airbags as well as ABS and Anti-Skid control. A lane departure warning system has also been fitted. Once you get in the car you instantly feel comfortable as the steering is easy to reach. The hatchback is spacious for all the passengers and the headroom and legroom has increased for back passengers. The car is certainly as class leader but the boot space is not, with just 316 litres. The Focus has less boot space than its last model and it is 54 litres less than the Vauxhall Astra. Ford Focus has a smart cabin with great Kit and the best drivability in its class.
