Magic is one of the oldest forms of entertainment that continues to be in great demand even in the twenty-first century. It is the mystery involved in magic that keeps the audience glued to their seats. A magician requires concentration, practice, creativity and expertise to be a successful entertainer. He should be aware of some of the most common magic tricks that have never failed to entertain the audience, especially the children. However, he should also have the ability to be innovative and create his own tricks.
Some of the most popular tricks shown by a magician are:
1. Finding a card trick – Request one person from the audience to choose a card from the pack of cards that you are holding. Shuffle the cards a couple of times or as many times as your audience demands, keeping track of the card that has been picked by the individual. The skill lies in your ability to convince the audience that they can see all the cards, when, in reality, one of the cards is being hidden from them. Make sure that nobody stands behind you. Then, show the chosen card to your awe-struck audience.
2. The disappearing coin ...
... trick – Hold the coin between the thumb and the index finger of your left hand, with the palm facing towards the ceiling. The trick is to show make the coin disappear. After fiddling with the coin a few times, lift your right hand to take the coin and move it in a way that you are about to take it from the left hand. This is done so that you get enough time to allow the coin to slide down to the palm of your left hand, without the audience noticing it. Ask your audience to concentrate on your right hand and keep them entertained to divert attention from the left hand. Put the coin into the pocket and open the fists of your right hand to dramatically announce that the coin has vanished.
3. The black magic trick – In this trick, the magician asks one person from the audience to choose on object from the room. For this magic, the assistance of a co-performer is necessary. The magician leaves the stage while everyone else comes to know about the object chosen by the individual, after which the magician returns to the stage. The co-performer calls out the objects that are present in the room, so that the magician can detect the object that has been chosen. The trick is that the co-performer calls out the correct option right after naming an object that is ‘black’ in color. That is how the trick gets its name from.
