Make Use Of Those So-called Waste Products And Make The World A Healthier Place To Live For You And
You may not know it but polystyrene is probably more important in your day to day life that you might imagine. Do you ever grab a quick coffee on the way to work? Or a burger on the way back from a night out? You might even order things online? These are all situations that need the use of polystyrene, from packaging to convenience.
Expanded polystyrene products are all around us and play an important part in life as a really useful yet inexpensive material with the ability to be used for a huge variety of products.
This is why it is important that we consider how it can be recycled. Polystyrene is one of the hardest materials to recycle and is also one of the products that the local authority collection does not cover. Usually seen as a waste material after its original use means that it usually ends up in the bin, but then where? Imagine if your back garden was a hole filled with waste like this?
In the UK there is a huge shortage of consumer recycling points for polystyrene with only a few in the whole of the country. Polystyrene is a non-biodegradable material; although it is not toxic, ...
... landfill should always be the very last resort.
There are many expanded polystyrene products that we can make use of ourselves, such as packaging. When polystyrene is often used as a way of protecting goods that are traveling and need protective packaging, it is common that it will be used on a reasonably large scale. Would you just throw it all in the bin? Probably… but that’s exactly what this article is about.
Think twice and get creative, could you use this material again? Here are a couple of ideas. Arts and craft stores usually sell polystyrene because it is very diverse! If you have children who like to get imaginative, let them make something useful out of it. Use it for a school project or some Christmas decorations.
With Christmas just around the corner you might be sending out packages and presents, recycle it in the simplest of forms and just re-use it the way it was first received by you! Help the world go around a little bit better, after all, it is our children and the next generation who will have to live with our silly mistakes!
You could even use it as a useful tool in the garden. Use it for insulation around a pond, as a cold frame, a bath pillow or even as crocks in plant pots. What about using it for mounting artwork on walls rather than going out and buying a canvas or new material for the job. It could even save you money.
If this seems like to much hassle for you, just simply try and avoid buying items that are packed with polystyrene in the first place. Many manufacturers have gone green and use paper based alternatives instead. Spread the word and together, let’s try to make the world a better place!
