How To Travel - Amritsar To Chandigarh

Amritsar (called Ambarsar in the colloquial language) is a city located in the north-western part of India. It is the holiest place for the followers of Sikh religion, because it is the abode of Harmandir Sahib (which is popularly called the "Golden Temple"), which is the spiritual and cultural headquarters of the Sikhs. It is said that the Golden Temple attracts more visitors than Taj Mahal. It is the most popular destination for Non-resident Indians (NRI) in the whole of India. Amritsar is also the quarters of the Sikh temporal and political authority, Akal Takht, and the Sikh Parliament.
Chandigarh is a Union Territory of India that serves as the capital city of two states - Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is known for its well-planned architecture and has made its own mark as an urban city. The city got its name from the two words Chandi and Garh which literally means Fort of Chandi. The name refers to an ancient temple devoted to Goddess Chandi, which was located in the area adjoining the city at ancient times. The distance from Amritsar to Chandigarh is approximately 240 km by road. The time taken for a drive from Amritsar to Chandigarh takes a little more than 4 hours by car. The main towns that fall in the way are Amritsar - 43 km -> Rayya - 50 km -> Jalandhar - 43 km -> Banga - 61 km -> Rupnagar - 20 km -> Kharar - 17 km -> Chandigarh. There are many petrol pumps, eateries, restaurants and rest rooms for the benefit of travellers.
There are not many trains connecting Amritsar to Chandigarh. The only train that connect both the cities is the daily train, Asr Cdg Duronto Express (12242). As such it is prudent to do advance online reservation through the Indian Railways Tourism and Catering Corporation (IRCTC) website. In fact advance reservation of tickets will mean that the journey is comfortable and without much hassles.
Apart from these, the easiest and quickest means of travel from Amritsar to Chandigarh is by air. The number of flights connecting both the places is rather limited. Currently, only Air India and Jet Airways operate flights to Chandigarh from Amritsar. Even so, there are only a few direct flights between the places.
Alternatively, reaching from Amritsar to Chandigarh by cab is also an excellent option. The taxi fares ranges between INR 5000 and INR 7500 depending upon the type of vehicle preferred. Travelling by car is preferable while travelling with family consisting of elders, small children or invalids.
Shimla To Chandigarh and Mumbai to Chandigarh both have road, train and air facility.
